Western Australia vs Queensland Tips

Western Australia and Queensland have been the teams to beat in the Sheffield Shield this year. The pair are currently unbeaten after two matches and could really solidify their place in the top spots with a win. For Queensland, they can put some serious ground between themselves and their next opponents with a victory. For Western Australia, a triumph would take them above Queensland with three games played.

Western Australia Form

Western Australia began their Sheffield Shield campaign with a comfortable eight wicket win over New South Wales. After restricting their opponents to scores of 180 and 162, WA scored 258 and 85/2 to see them to an opening day win. Their bowling performance was particularly impressive in this match as Lance Morris starred, taking 9/82 across the match.

However, their bowlers were taken to the cleaners on a batting friendly pitch against Victoria in their second game. After notching 466 in their first innings, WA would have felt quite good about their chances of winning. However, Victoria pummelled their way to 616/4 declared, with Aaron Hardie's figures of 2/87 the best for WA in the match. In this game, the home side will hope to be far better with the ball, while they will want to channel similarly solid batting performances once again.

Queensland Form

Queensland were excellent in their opening match as they dismantled Tasmania in an impressive win. Queensland restricted their opponents to scores of 147 and 139, while they made their way to 458 all out, helping them to secure a win by an innings and 172 runs. Marnus Labuschagne (127) and Jimmy Peirson (123) starred with the bat for Queensland in what was a very one-sided game.

Queensland's second match should have ended in a win, but they ultimately ran out of time in their fourth innings chase. They restricted New South Wales to a score of 246 in their first innings before notching 477/6 declared as Matt Renshaw recorded a superb 200 not out. NSW did their best to slow the game down as they scored 256 all out, setting Queensland a score of 26 to win. Ultimately, they fell short, scoring 10 runs, with the match ending in a draw.
