Victoria vs New South Wales Tips

New South Wales are in the same situation, as they look to haul themselves off the bottom of the table.

  • Victoria are yet to win this season (L2, D3) (Sheffield Shield)
  • Victoria have lost their last two in a row (Sheffield Shield)
  • New South Wales are yet to win in this competition (L2, D3) (Sheffield Shield)
  • NSW have only lost one of their last four (D3) (Sheffield Shield)

Head to Head

The last time the two sides played, Victoria ran out winners in the One Day Cup. NSW battled to 277/7 in their 50 overs before Victoria worked their way to an adjusted score of 156 to win, losing only three wickets.

Victoria Form

Victoria's last two games in the Sheffield Shield have ended in defeat. An awful batting display in their match against Queensland let their own bowlers down twice. A woeful score of just 63 saw Ashley Chandrasinghe top score with 16 before their bowlers then rolled Queensland over for 205. However, Victoria were once again skittled for 132. This saw them fall to a loss by an innings and 10 runs.

Their next game saw them make just 121 runs in their first innings before then putting in a far better performance in their second knock, notching 336 all out. Despite this better score in their second innings, they were unable to bowl Tasmania out cheaply enough, with their opponents securing a four wicket win.

While Victoria are clearly improving with each performance, they still need to find another level if they are to get a win. Fortunately for them, they are playing a NSW side in no form, and they will hope to notch their first triumph of the year.

New South Wales Form

NSW have struggled massively this year. Without a win in five games, NSW are already a massive 23 points behind Western Australia at the top and looking at a very disappointing campaign.

Their last match saw a real fight against Western Australia in a game they were ultimately beaten in. They were able to bowl WA out for just 233, but they were then rolled over for 93. They gave themselves a good chance of winning the match by then bowling their opponents out for just 127, but they once again failed with the bat, notching just 134 runs. This saw them fall to a loss by 133 runs.

Clearly, New South Wales are struggling to really score runs with the bat, and it is something they have to be better with if they are to get off the bottom of the table.

We are backing Victoria to come out on top in this match with bookmaker Neds. They have looked better of late, and if they can back their bowling performances up with a strong showing with the bat, then we have no doubt they can win this one.
