New South Wales Tips

New South Wales have had a season to forget so far as their woes in the Sheffield Shield seem set to continue. Without a win in their last eight matches, NSW have seen three of their last four end in defeat.

NSW currently find themselves a massive 29 points short of Western Australia at the top of the table, with their last match in the competition ending in a loss by five wickets. This defeat was made all the more frustrating by the fact that they made a strong 320 in their first innings. Despite this, they still fell to a loss by five wickets.

An inability to at least secure a draw after notching 320 runs in the first innings of the match shows they have not been good enough when it comes to restricting their opponents and taking wickets. They need to be far better in this one if they are to secure their first win of the season.

Victoria Tips

Victoria have looked strong this season after securing three wins in their opening eight matches. This has come alongside two defeats and three draws, with their 31 points seeing them into second in the table.

Despite sitting 11 points short of WA at the top, Victoria are the form team in the Sheffield Shield right now. Three wins in a row was capped off by a powerful 177 run win over South Australia.

This triumph came despite notching an underwhelming 169 runs in their first innings. They then restricted their opponents to 114 and 190, with their own score of 312 sandwiched in between this. Victoria were indebted to Matt Short in their second innings as he scored 119 from 135 to ensure that Victoria were too far ahead in the clash.

Verdict

I am backing Victoria to come out on top in this one and make it four wins in a row. While Matt Short came in at number five in Victoria's last match, he was in sparkling form, and I am backing him to top score for the side.
