South Africa vs Australia 3rd ODI Preview, Predictions & Betting Tips

South Africa and Australia move on to Potchefstroom for the 3rd ODI with the South Africans holding an unasailable 2-0 series lead. The bookmakers still have South Africa as underdogs which means there is great value on offer.

Heinrich Klaasen has scored 50+ in his last two innings so there is no reason he can't perform again. Opening Proteas' batsman Janneman Malan played the innings of a lifetime in the 2nd ODI and has value in the over/under runs scored market.

South Africa Form

South Africa were superb in the 2nd ODI in Bloemfontein against Australia. Lungi Ngidi took 6-58 to ensure Australia only scored 274 runs, way below par for the Bloemfontein pitch.

Janneman Malan, who got out to his first ball on debut in the 1st ODI then scored 129 not out as South Africa cruised to a six-wicket victory. He was ably supported by Heinrich Klaasen who scored 50 runs following on from his 123 in the 1st ODI. In the end the hosts won comfortably by six wickets and nine balls to spare.

Klaasen is in great form and is my best for the best batsman market while Malan offers value in the over/under runs market. South Africa are paying $2.50 for a 3rd successive victory over Australia.

After a summer of turmoil South Africa will want to keep their foot on the throat of Australia. At the same time opportunities need to be given and with the series won there may be a couple of changes. Lutho Sipamla is the obvious choice to come into the bowling line-up, perhaps at the expense of Anrich Nortje.

Australia Form

It has been a disappointing ODI series for Australia after losing both of the first two matches. Batting first in the 2nd ODI in Bloemfontein Aaron Finch and David Warner got them off to a cracking start. The dismissal of Warner for 35 runs however slowed the pace of the innings down somewhat.

D’Arcy Short batted brilliantly for his 69 runs, as did Aaron Finch for the same score. Unfortunately the middle to lower order only managed 49 runs in the final 10 overs which left Australia on 271 runs.

South Africa reached the total with the loss of only four wickets to win by six wickets with nine balls to spare.

The Aussies remain comfortable favourites at $1.53 which is very short considering their form over the last two ODIs.

South Africa vs Australia Head to Head

South Africa have now won 10 of their last 11 ODI matches against Australia. Their last encounter was the 2nd ODI of the current series were the host came out victorious by six wickets in Bloemfontein.

South Africa vs Australia Betting Odds

South Africa offer value at $2.50 with Australia favourites at $1.53. Quinton de Kock remains the favourite at $2.87 in the best batsman market for South Africa. Janneman Malan is paying $4.50 in the same market with in-from Heinrich Klaasen at $6.50.

David Warner can be backed at $3.50 in the best batsman market for Australia while opening partner Aaron Finch and Steven Smith are paying $4.00.

South Africa vs Australia Match Up

South Africa have been brilliant in the opening two ODIs against a very strong Australian outfit. Despite impressive bowling spells from Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins the backup hasn’t quite been up to scratch.

Australia will be looking for an improvement in both their batting and bowling performances. Neither department has been up to scratch in the opening two ODIs and South Africa have taken full advantage.
