Matt Short was the steady one of the openers with 63 runs as both veterans Travis Head and Steve Smith fell cheaply. But the show was owned by Josh Inglis is laying early foundations for an illustrious international career. The W.A bred keeper propelled the Aussies with 120* runs from 86 balls. Alex Carey (69 runs) and Glen Maxwell 32* from 15 runs) ensured that Inglis got support at the other end of the pitch.

It was a sublime batting performance by the Proteas with Rassie van der Dussen and Aiden Markram * both scoring 52 runs, while opener Ryan Rickelton led the South Africans with 103 runs claiming his maiden international century. 

Their 315/6 total was never in reach with their bowling attack constantly taking wickets, not allowing any partnership of Afghanistan settle for too long.
