Last time Australia played a one-day international in Adelaide, the former Australian captain hit 80 runs not out to lead the Aussies to victory over England, back in November, 2022.

Smith looked comfortable at the crease in game one of the series and it is predicted that his stability at number three will be needed again as Australia look to continue with a younger opening pairing. Smith will score over his batting total of 37.5 and it is also worth playing a unit on a half century, with the 35-year old scoring 50+ in 2 of his past 4 matches in Adelaide.

Pat Cummins was the hero for Australia with the bat in the opening match but he will play hero with the ball in the second one-day international, claiming 2+ wickets.

Head to Head

Series Played: 12
Australia: 8
Pakistan: 4
Draw: 0

  • Australia won the opening match of the series by 2 wickets (with 99 balls remaining)
  • Pakistan won the most recent series 2-1 in Pakistan, in 2022.
  • Australia have won 4 of the last 5 ODI series against Pakistan.

Australia Form

The Aussies got away with one after having the game in their hands after a superb opening innings with the ball from Mitchell Starc who took 3 wickets for 33 runs with 3 maidens  from his 10 overs. Captain Pat Cummins played his part also with the ball getting 2 wickets with a 4.03 economy rate, however, the Australian captain played hero with the bat saving the Aussies from embarrassment and leading the home side to a 2 wicket, 99-ball victory.

Pat Cummins steadied the Australians with a knock of 32 runs coming into bat with Australia at 155/7 after Josh Inglis top scored with 49 runs and Steve Smith’s 44 runs had the home team in control. However, a collapse forced the Australian captain to save the day in a memorable moment that amplifies the value of Cummins as the skipper of Australia.

Pakistan Form

Mohammad Rizwan stepped up as the new captain of the Pakistan one-day side and top-scored with the bat for the visitors with 44 runs. However, a mid-order collapse from Pakistan gave them a total that looked undefendable, being bowled out by the Australians after 46.4 overs for just 203 runs.

The challenge was there for Pakistan and they almost caused a huge upset to start the summer of cricket in Australia pinning Australia down for 2-28, however a third-wicket partnership of 85 runs between Steve Smith and Josh Inglis put Australia in command. however , Haris Rauf claimed 3 wickets and Shaheen Shah Afridi claimed one to put Australia under pressure going from 3-113 to 6-139.

That was where the excitement diminished and Australia steadied and Pat Cummins saved the match for the home team.
