Australia vs New Zealand 1st ODI Preview, Predictions & Betting Tips

Australia return home after suffering a 3-0 series defeat in South Africa. They will want to get things back on track against the New Zealand at the SCG but the visitors arrive full of confidence after beating India 3-0 in an ODI series recently.

Ross Taylor has been in superb form for New Zealand and can be the difference between the sides while Australia's Marnus Labuschagne managed 108 runs in his last ODI against the Proteas.

Australia Form

Australia were well and truly beaten in their ODI series in South Africa. All three matches were convincingly won by the hosts who managed to keep a strong looking Australian batting line-up quiet. Aaron Finch and David Warner got starts but never pushed on, Steven Smith managed one decent score but threw his wicket away.

Marnus Labuschagne's 108 runs in the final ODI was the one plus point while D'Arcy Short scored some invaluable runs lower in the order.

The Aussies need to find some consistency and they'll need to do this against a very well drilled New Zealand outfit. I fancy the visitors here with Australia low on confidence.

New Zealand Form

New Zealand batted superbly throughout their 3-0 ODI series victory over India. Martin Guptill and Ross Taylor were particularly impressive alongside a few others who chipped in.

The Black Caps will fancy their chances as Australia return from South Afirca low on confidence. That can all change if New Zealand are not on top of their game from the first ball at the SCG as Australia still have an exceptional side.

I fancy New Zealand to continue this momentum and get the win over Australia with Ross Taylor tipped to play a crucial role.

Australia vs New Zealand Head to Head

New Zealand have won two of their last three completed matches against Australia. Their last match however ended in an Australian victory by 86 runs at the 2019 Cricket World Cup at Lord’s.

Australia vs New Zealand Betting Odds

Out of form Australia are favourites at 1.57 to win with New Zealand valued at 2.37. David Warner can be backed at 3.75 to be the Aussies best batsman with Seven Smith and Aaron Finch priced at 4.33.

Centurion in his last match, Marnus Labuschagne can be backed at 6.00 in the best batsman market. For New Zealand Kane Williamson can be backed at 3.75 while in-form Ross Taylor will pay 5.00.

Australia vs New Zealand Match Up

Australia come into this home series in terrible ODI form mainly due to a failing batting line-up. David Warner, Aaron Finch, Steven Smith and Marnus Labuschagne gives the look of a superb top four but seldom has more than one of them put a score on the board.

On the other hand New Zealand have been flying with bat in hand but keeping that consistency will be necessary against a quality Australian bowling line-up.
