Head to Head
Last year, Queensland defeated Tasmania by 45 runs on the DLS method in a match that was capped at 29 overs.
Queensland Form
Queensland come into this one after struggling to really get going in their opening game of the season. They managed to restrict South Australia to a chaseable 278 in their 50 overs, as Matt Renshaw (2/30) and Mitchell Swepson (2/42) starred with the ball. Despite a bright start following the loss of an early wicket, Tasmania went from 123/3 to 217 all out as they collapsed in the match.
This time around, their target will be to ensure they are able to start well and continue this throughout their innings. Usman Khawaja will target more than the 26 he made in the opener, with this coming at a rather painstaking strike rate of 57.78. If Queensland are to perform in this game and across the competition, they will expect more from their captain.
Tasmania Form
Tasmania were excellent in their last game, romping to an eight wicket win over South Australia. Tom Rogers was superb with the ball as he destroyed the opposition, returning figures of 5/32. This helped Tasmania restrict South Australia to 220 all out from 44.1 overs.
In reply, Caleb Jewell starred with an unbeaten 126 from 97. He was ably assisted by Ben McDermott (71 from 90) as Tasmania got home with eight wickets and 17.1 overs to spare.
If Tasmania are to continue the sort of form we saw in the last game, they will feel a win is well withing reach in this one. While they will not always be able to call on Rogers skittling the opposition with the ball or Jewell smashing the ball around, they know they have the talent in their squad to beat any side in the competition.
