Sydney Thunder vs Sydney Sixers Tips - Thunder to win Sydney derby

In what should be a very close encounter, I'm backing the Thunder's in-form batsmen to win this one for them. Sam Billings and Usman Khawaja are both tipped to score runs in this encounter.

The Sydney Sixers have won three of their last five matches against the Sydney Thunder. In their last match the Thunder came away with a 4-run victory on the D/L method in January 2020.

Sydney Thunder are second on the BBL table, two points behind the Sydney Sixers at the top. 

After a three-match winning run, the Sydney Thunder suffered defeat in their last outing against the Perth Scorchers in Perth. Bowling first the Thunder restricted the Scorchers to 185 runs as Brendan Doggett produced an inspired bowling spell, taking 4-22.

Unfortunately the Sydney Thunder’s batsmen failed dominate when their turn came. Sam Billings crushed 83 off 48 balls but there were very few other contributions as the Thunder reached 168 in their 20 overs.

The Thunder will want a better performance on the batting front in this clash but they have been reasonably consistent this season. 

The form of Sam Billings will be pleasing in particular so there shouldn’t be changes to the lineup here.

Sydney Sixers top the Big Bash table after nine matches with six victories. Their last match ended in a three wicket win over the Brisbane Heat in Carrara.

West Indian Carlos Brathwaite was the pick of the Sixers bowlers, taking 4-18 in four overs. This helped keep the Heat to a total of 148 runs in their 20 overs.

The Sixers stuttered in response but Daniel Hughes (51) and Dan Christian (61) ensured they got home off the final ball of the innings.

The Sydney Sixers are still likely to be without Sean Abbott and Moises Henriques due to international duty. They have not been released from the Test squad ahead of the 4th Test.

Ben Dwarshuis could come back in for Jake Ball or Lloyd Pope after sitting out in the last match.
