Sydney Thunder vs Brisbane Heat Tips

The Heat have a great record against the Thunder. But with home advantage and a powerful batting line-up, the Thunder are tipped to win.

Chris Lynn missed out for the Heat last time, but can top the runs for Brisbane. Alex Hales is tipped to do so for the Thunder.

  • Sydney Thunder won 2 of their last 6 matches to finish 3rd.
  • Thunder scored a BBL record 232/5 in one of their two most recent wins.
  • Thunder batman Alex Hales has top scored in 2 of the last 3 matches.
  • Brisbane Heat have won their last 3 matches.
  • Brisbane Heat defeated Adelaide Strikers in the first BBL Eliminator on Friday.
  • Heat batsman Chris Lynn has top scored in 5 of the last 7 matches.

Head to Head

Brisbane Heat have a dominant 9-3 head to head record from 12 previous clashes with the Sydney Thunder.

During BBL10, the Thunder won by six wickets at Manuka Oval with Daniel Sams the matchwinner with 65 not out from 25 balls.

The Heat gained revenge at the Gabba, where they won by five wickets. Joe Denly and Joe Burns both scored half-centuries in the victory.

Sydney Thunder Form

Sydney Thunder finished the regular season with an impressive nine wicket win over the Adelaide Strikers.

Having won one of their previous four games prior to the success against the Strikers, the Thunder enter the finals in buoyant mood after winning with 7.5 overs to spare at the Adelaide Oval.

Thunder restricted the Strikers to 115/4, despite Jake Weatherald's 80 not out.

After Usman Khawaja was dismissed first ball, Alex Hales (63 not out) and Callum Ferguson (46 not out) eased Sydney to a comfortable win.

Hales's 110 and Ferguson's 42 had helped the Thuder score a record 232/5, the biggest ever BBL total, against cross-town rivals Sydney Sixers three games ago.

Thunder Team News

Sydney Thunder could be boosted by the return of all-rounder Daniel Sams. He missed the last three games through a hand injury.

Brendan Doggett is likely to be the unlucky man making way if Sams is passed fit.

Decisions will also be made over Oliver Davies and Alex Ross for the fifth batsman spot in the Thunder line-up.

Brisbane Heat Form

The Brisbane Heat scraped into the BBL finals with a final day victory over Perth Scorchers, and are now dreaming big.

Heat won their final two games of the season to finish in fourth. They beat Melbourne Renegades by 26 runs and the Scorchers by six runs.

In Friday's Eliminator against the Adelaide Strikers, an impressive bowling performance set up a third straight Heat victory.

Brisbane restricted the Strikers to 130/7 with Marnus Labuschagne taking 3/13.

Heat got home with seven balls to spare with Joe Denly (41) and Jimmy Piersen (47 not out) doing the bulk of the work.

Heat Team News

The Heat dropped opener Max Bryant is favour of left-hander Sam Heazlett in a tactical switch against the Strikers. Will Heazlett retain his place?

Xavier Bartlett was again subbed out with Morne Morkel replacing him as the X-factor. Morkel may start this game from the outset.

An interesting BBL Knockout is in store. The Heat have a head of steam after three wins a row, while the Thunder have faltered during the end of the season.

Even during a period of two wins in their last six, the Thunder set a new BBL record of 232 in 20 overs against the Strikers. At Manuka Oval, they should just edge things.
