The Sydney Sixers and Melbourne Renegades clash in the Big Bash at the Blundstone Arena in Hobart on Sunday. The Renegades got off to a victorious start but can they get one over a Sixers side brimming with international quality?
Sydney Sixers Form
The Sydney Sixers did not start their defence of the Big Bash title on a good footing as they went down by 16 runs against the Hobart Hurricanes in their opener.
Bowling first the Sixers started well, taking two wickets in the opening couple overs. Unfortunately thereafter they allowed the Hurricanes to build partnerships and eventually score 178 runs.
Much like their bowling effort, the Sixers started well with the bat. Star opener Josh Philippe was dismissed for one but Jack Edwards and James Vince put on a 116-run partnership for the second wicket. Vince was dismissed for 67 and Edwards for 47 runs.
The Sydney Sixers looked to be cruising to victory but their middle-order let them down. No one else managed more than 13 runs which left the Sixers 16 runs shy of the total.
Sydney Sixers Team News
The Sydney Sixers have a quality side and won’t make drastic changes. They do however have plenty of quality that did not feature in the opening match.
Players like Sean Abbott, Jackson Bird and captain Moises Henriques could be available for this match.
Melbourne Renegades Form
The Melbourne Renegades were desperate to perform better than they did last season. Finishing dead last did not do their talent justice and it was proven in their opener against the Perth Scorchers.
Opening bowlers Josh Lalor and Kane Richardson were magnificent with the ball as they took three wickets apiece to restrict the Scorchers to a paltry total of 130 in Hobart.
Shaun Marsh and Aaron Finch responded magnificently with a 70-run opening stand. Marsh scored 62 off 47 balls while Finch contributed 35 runs. No other major contributions were required as the Renegades cruised home by seven wickets with 3.3 overs to spare.
Melbourne Renegades Team News
There isn’t much need for the Renegades to change their lineup after such a convincing performance. They are likely to stick with the same.
Sydney Sixers vs Melbourne Renegades Head to Head

Sydney Sixers vs Melbourne Renegades Odds

Sydney Sixers vs Melbourne Renegades Match Up
The Sydney Sixers have an exceptionally well balanced side but they will need their middle-order and bowlers to produce the goods. Key to the Sixers chances will be getting through the opening partnership of Aaron Finch and Shaun Marsh, who are the obvious danger players for the Renegades.
This will be the second match of a double header so expect the pitch to slow up and spin bowlers to come into play.
