Head to Head
The Sydney Sixers have won four of their last five matches against the Melbourne Stars, including the BBL final last season.
On Boxing Day this season the Sixers beat the Stars by one wicket off the penultimate ball of the match.
Melbourne Stars Form
The Melbourne Stars find themselves second from bottom going into the final match of the season. They could still qualify for the playoffs but will need two of the Heat, Thunder and Hurricanes to lose.
It has been a strange season for the Stars who started magnificently and then they just became very inconsistent. Their last match took place in Melbourne against the Perth Scorchers, a match the Stars lost by 11 runs.
The Scorchers scored 182 runs batting first which was more than they should have gotten. The Stars responded well but Nick Larkin’s 70 runs was just not enough to see the Stars home.
Glenn Maxwell’s form has completely disappeared after a superb first half of the season. Should he find the middle of the bat, the Stars will have a chance.
Stars Team News
The Melbourne Stars’ options are very limited in terms of changes. Instead they will hope that Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis score big in this match.
By the time this match starts, the Stars will know if they can qualify. Should they not be able to, we could see some youngsters get a run.
Sydney Sixers Form
The Sydney Sixers have led the BBL table for most of the season and actually built up an eight point gap just a week ago. The defending champs have however lost their last two encounters and dropped to second place on the table.
The Sixers will want to put this poor run to bed before heading into the playoffs. Their bowlers have not been at their best over the last two matches, conceding 234 and 188 runs.
Against the Hobart Hurricanes in their last match, the Sixers failed to chase that 188-run total. They did put up a huge fight after losing early wickets with Moises Henriques scoring 43 and Jordan Silk 78 runs. Their 181 runs fell just seven short of the target.
Sixers Team News
After performing so well for the entire season, the Sixers are unlikely to make any changes. The addition of Moises Henriques has added plenty of quality.
Sean Abbott has not found his top form since returning from international duty but his undoubted quality should see him start again.
