Melbourne Stars vs Hobart Hurricanes Tips

The Hurricanes have secured themselves a playoff birth and in so doing ensured the Stars can no longer qualify, regardless of the result here. My best bet is a Hurricanes win.

  • Melbourne Stars’ Glenn Maxwell has scored 68* & 37 runs in 2 of his last 3 matches.
  • Melbourne Stars’ Glenn Maxwell was the man of the match in his last match.
  • Hobart Hurricanes’ Matthew Wade scored 83 & 46 runs in his last 2 matches.

Head to Head

Melbourne Stars have won three of their last five against the Hobart Hurricanes. It was however the Hurricanes who won by 24 runs earlier this season.

Melbourne Stars Form

The Melbourne Stars are currently in sixth place on the Big Bash table. Qualifying for the playoffs looks a tall order but is still possible if results go their way, and they beat the Hurricanes here.

Last time out the Stars defeated the Brisbane Heat by eight wickets. Adam Zampa took 2-20 and Glenn Maxwell 2-19 as the Stars held the Heat to 149 runs in 20 overs.

Joe Clarke then top scored with 67 runs while Glenn Maxwell hit 37 to cap off a man of the match performance. The Melbourne Stars cruised to an eight wicket win with six overs to spare.

Melbourne Stars Team News

The Stars shouldn’t be looking to make too many changes to their side. Although if they can no longer qualify by the time the match starts tomorrow, fringe players could get a run.

Squad: Cameron Boyce, Unmukt Chand, Zak Evans, Aaron Finch, Jake Fraser-McGurk, Sam Harper, Marcus Harris, Mackenzie Harvey, Zahir Khan, Josh Lalor, Nic Maddinson (Jono Merlo), Shaun Marsh (James Seymour), Mohammad Nabi, James Pattinson, Mitch Perry, Jack Prestwidge, Kane Richardson, Will Sutherland, Reece Topley

Hobart Hurricanes Form

The Hobart Hurricanes have secured a place in the playoffs but could still climb into fourth, should they win here. Theoretically third is still a possibility but the victory will have to be by a huge margin given the net run rate state.

Against the Renegades the Hurricanes batted first, scoring 182 runs. Matthew Wade continued his fine form with 48 runs while D'Arcy Short scored 37 and Tim David 46 runs.

The bowling struggled but still came up trumps in the end. The Renegades could only reach 176 leaving the Hobart side with a six run win.

Hobart Hurricanes Team News

Scott Boland was not considered for the Hurricanes last match. He may get a game against the Stars depending on how the bowlers go.

Squad: Scott Boland, Harry Brook (Jordan Cox), Tim David, Nathan Ellis, Peter Handscomb, Caleb Jewell, Josh Kann, Sandeep Lamichhane, Ben McDermott, Riley Meredith, Mitch Owen, Joel Paris, Wil Parker, Tom Rogers, D’Arcy Short, Jordan Thompson (Tom Lammonby), Matthew Wade, Mac Wright
