The Sixers will have a next man up mentality with Steve Smith now out of the team heading over to Sri Lanka as well as James Vince having already left the squad. It will be essential for the men in magenta to get off to a good start with the bat, no matter what innings it is. Josh Philippe ranks 29th among batsmen this season with 179 runs and top score of 66 not out.

Hobart’s bowling attack took a hiding against Melbourne but it has been one of the most dynamic all season long. Riley Meredith leads the charge with 11 wickets in 8 games and just a 8.76 economy rate, Captain Nathan Ellis and Chris Jordan have also taken their share of wickets and it is my prediction that the bowling attack will be the difference in this game.

The Hurricanes bowling attack averaged 6 wickets per game this season and over their last 4 games the Sixers have dropped over 7 per game. The batting lineup of Sydney has seen a lot of movement through the season and will sorely miss Steve Smith in this one.

Take the Canes with the handicap, they have covered in all of their victories this season. Sixes are few and far between for travellers to Bellerive but there have been a number of fours hit, take the over total for the game there. Mitch Owen and Riley Meredith to be the pick of the bunch for their respective disciplines.

  • Hobart have covered the line in all of their winning games this season.
  • The Hurricanes have averaged 25 fours in their games at Bellerive this season while the Sixers are liable to give up at least 12 per game as the road team.
  • Mitch Owen is ranked 3rd among all batsmen in the BBL with 308 runs including a 101 not out.
  • Riley Meredith has taken 11 wickets this season, the most of any bowler on the team.

The Canes lost their final game of the regular season against the Melbourne Stars who needed the victory to progress to the post-season.

It was only the second loss of the season for Hobart bookending their season in the same manner it started. The 219 runs that the Stars scored was the highest opposition total that Hobart have allowed this season and given their thoughts may have already been on this matchup against Sydney you can forgive them for that.

Momentum is key in Cricket and the loss does put a dampener on the spirits of the team that had won 7 games straight through the regular season. Mitch Owen was once again the best batter of the top order with Jewell, Wakim and McDermott all going for a combined 7 runs.

Captain Nathan Ellis added a team high 40 batting at number 10 after bowling just one over in the first innings, appearing to pull up sore in the field. At time of publication there is no news as to whether he will be able to play in Tuesday’s matchup.

Star bowler Riley Meredith sat out the clash with the Stars but will be a necessary inclusion for Hobart as the best bowler for the team this season.

Sydney Sixers Form

Sydney have finished just one game of Cricket since the 12th of January with their most recent matchup against the Sydney Thunder being washed out in the first innings.

The two Sydney teams finished in 2nd and 3rd having 2 games each ending in no results but for the Sixers, their 6 wins and 2 losses was enough to secure them second spot on the ladder and an extra chance at the final through the Qualifier.

Steve Smith has been a welcome inclusion in the squad in the three games he played this season, smashing 173 runs in two innings. He has now shipped off to Sri Lanka meaning there is a massive hole to fill in the batting ranks for Sydney.

The Sixers have been averaging just 10.6 fours and 4 sixes in their away games this season, one of the lowest numbers in the league.
