Hobart Hurricanes get their BBL 2019/20 campaign underway in Alice Springs against the Sydney Sixers who already have a victory under their belt.
David Miller has joined the Hurrcanes ranks for this season and arrives in decent form having scored over 22.5 runs in his last four innings. He will add much needed firepower to the Hurricanes middle-order.
In the Sixers last match opening batsman Josh Philippe led the charge scoring 81 runs. The form he showed deserves to be backed in the run-scoring markets.
Hobart Hurricanes Form & Team News
This is the Hobart Hurricanes opening match of the BBL and they will be hoping for a repeat of last season. The Hurricanes topped the BBL table with 10 wins from their 14 matches but they did lose three of their last five matches.
While on paper they have an exceptionally strong batting line-up it is the bowling department that lacks the quality you’d expect. Overseas signing David Miller however offers them a different dimension with the bat and he is in form.
During the recently completed Mzansi Super League Miller scored over 22.5 runs in his last four innings. I’m tipping him to go over that again at $1.90. D’Arcy Short is likely to be the key batsman but his recent limited overs form doesn’t inspire confidence so I will wait for him to start finding the middle of the bat.
The Hurricanes can be backed at 1.85 for the win but I am focusing on the Sydney Sixers who have already won a match.
Sydney Sixers Form & Team News
Sydney Sixers got their BBL off to a convincing start as they beat the Perth Scorchers by eight wickets with five overs to spare at the SCG.
Ben Dwarshuis took 2-15 and Tom Curran 3-32 as the Scorchers were bowled out for 131 runs. Josh Philippe made light work of that total, going on to score 81 off 44 balls. As my best bet I am backing Philippe to score over 23.5 runs again at $1.83.
Barring any late injuries I doubt the Sixers will make any changes with momentum on their side. The quick turnaround on their previous match shouldn’t affect them so early in the competition.
With a win under their belt I am backing them to make it two from two at $2.00.
Hobart Hurricanes vs Sydney Sixers Head to Head
The Sydney Sixers have won four of their last seven matches against the Hurricanes, including their last match at the SCG. That match the Sixers won by nine wickets after chasing down the Hurricanes 172 runs with three overs to spare.
Hobart Hurricanes vs Sydney Sixers Betting Odds
The Hobart Hurricanes are slight favourites at $1.85 while the Sydney Sixers are paying $2.00 for the win. In the best batsman market the Hurricanes D'Arcy Short is priced at $3.00 to be their best batsman with James Vince paying $4.00 in the same market for the Sixers.
The over/under runs market is always popular among punters and value can be found there. David Miller is priced at $1.90 to score over 22.5 runs on his debut for the Hurricanes while I feel Josh Philippe represents value at $1.83 to score over 23.5 runs.
Hobart Hurricanes vs Sydney Sixers Match Up
The Sydney Sixers arguably have the best bowling unit in the competition and that will be the challenge for the Hurricanes. Tom Curran was magnificent with the ball in the opening match but the Hobart Hurricanes have a strong batting unit, especially the middle-order with George Bailey and South Africa’s David Miller.
Josh Philippe will want to get the Sixers off to a good start as he did in the opening match of the BBL. How the Hurricanes try to contain him in the powerplay should be fascinating to watch.
