The third Ashes Test has always been incredibly important, and for England and Australia in 2023, this could prove to be the defining match of the series.

Ahead of the vital third Test at Headingley, Australia are the slight favourites at $2.20 with Neds, but are the touring side the team to back this week?

Following the first two Tests, traveling side Australia come into the third match of the series as the favourites at $2.20 with Neds. England are right behind them at $2.38, while a draw is available at $5.00.

The third match of the series at Headingley could yet see the 2023 Ashes decided as a contest. A win for Australia will allow them to clinch victory in the five-match series. A draw in this match will not win the series outright, but it will see Australia retain The Ashes.

Heading into the match, there are a number of questions and factors that will likely dictate which way the game goes.

For Australia, opener Usman Khawaja will once again be key, with the batsman helping to knit together the touring side's innings across the first two matches. However, if he fails, can the likes of David Warner or Marnus Labuschagne step up?

The absence of Nathan Lyon due to a calf injury will see one of Australia's most potent bowling threats miss the rest of the series, meaning the spinning option may not be quite as incisive as it has proved when Lyon has had the ball in hand.

For England, their bowling attack has been under the spotlight, with some critics questioning their 80mph bowling options. Perhaps Mark Wood's 90mph+ pace will be something the home side look at heading into the third Test.

Ollie Pope also seemed to injure his shoulder in the second Test meaning that he could be a doubt for the match. England also played with a long tail in the second Test as they opted for four-seam options, while they will also likely need a spinner when the series moves to Headingley.

There are clearly a number of questions that needs answers ahead of the third Test. The series itself did not need any other added spice, but it was given some through controversial moments involving Mitchell Starc catching Ben Duckett but being deemed to have dropped him, while Jonny Bairstow was run out by Alex Carey as the former came down the wicket to speak to Ben Stokes.

With the must-win Test for England looming, we could be in for yet another stunning Test match that only throws more fuel on the fire in what has been an incredible series.
