Parker Jackson-Cartwright has been one of, if not the best, players in the NBL this season. He ranks first in assists as well as third in scoring and steals. He has been seemingly unstoppable for all the teams he has come up against while also propelling his teammates to be better around him.
The JackJumpers are a good defensive team, they hold their opponents to the third lowest scoring total and the third lowest assist rate. Their problem, as is now well known across the league, is that they cannot score. They are tenth in points scored, assists, FG% and 3pt%.
There was a bright spark Thursday against the Wildcats with Milton Doyle heating up in the first half but another third quarter collapse, their seventh in a row, lead to another demoralising defeat.
My expectation here is that Tassie play a good defensive game but once again come up short on the offensive end. The total is set short but with Tassie's defence I am banking on them to keep scores tight and their scoring woes to continue. Matt Mooney will be instrumental.

The JackJumpers finally found some form in their most recent matchup on Thursday against the Perth Wildcats. They eventually went down in the game 88-82 with another 3rd quarter collapse all that was needed to steal defeat from the hands of victory.
Milton Doyle found his shot at RAC Arena sinking 6 straight three point attempts in the first half to give the JackJumpers a 4pt half time lead. Sadly though for the Tassie faithful the team once again struggled to get going out of the main break, not hitting a field goal until the 7th minute of the quarter.
Perth worked out to a 9 point lead in that 3rd quarter which was briefly taken back on two occasions in the final term but the Ants were unable to see things through to the end.
Tasmania have now lost 7 straight 3rd quarters by an average margin of 9 points which has set them up for defeat on all but 1 occasion.
New Zealand Breakers Form & Team News
For the first time in three weeks the Breakers get a break from a double game weekend. Their most recent matchup was at home last Sunday against Melbourne which they dominated from start to finish to win 113-79.
New Zealand shot 66% from the field in the victory pushing them up the rankings to 2nd in FG% across the league. The number was especially good given Melbourne’s known defence which on average holds opponents to only 42.7% shooting, 3rd best in the NBL.
But it wasn’t just the 11 made shots from three that delivered the win, or the 54 points in the paint. It was a focused attack and a focused defence. The Breakers kept their opponents to 79 points with hard-nosed defensive structures limiting their opponent to 27% from three and 37% from the field on the night.
With the fatigue from their early season trip to the USA now well and truly gone we have started to see what this NZ Breakers team are, and it is exciting. Parker Jackson-Cartwright can not only score at the third highest rate in the league but he leads the league in assists with 7.5 per game.
