Tasmania JackJumpers vs Melbourne United NBL24 Championship Series Game 2 Tips

Melbourne made a statement at home on Sunday, crushing the JackJumpers by 23 points in game 1 of the NBL24 Championship Series. Tasmania now gets the chance to defend the island and tie the series up and that is exactly what is predicted.

The JackJumpers started off their semifinal playoff series with the Wildcats in very similar fashion to how they played against Melbourne and their performance in game 2 against Perth was almost unrecognizable to that of game 1.

Melbourne put a lot of pressure on Jack McVeigh in game 1, which saw him shoot at just 36 percent from the field which was his third-worst figure all season long. Rating coach Scott Roth, he will find a way to unlock McVeigh in game 2, otherwise use the double teaming to his advantage.

United’s accuracy from the three point line was masterful in Melbourne, however, I do not see them hitting anywhere near the 50 percent mark at MyState Bank Arena as they did in John Cain.

The JackJumpers will reduce their target and get back to their bread and butter, which is their tightening defensive structure that will contain Goulding and Dellavedova better than they did in the opening match of the series.

I expect this game to be slowed down and if the Ants are going to get the better of United they are going to have to keep them under the 88.5-point team total.

Tasmania JackJumpers Form & Team News

The JackJumpers hung with Melbourne for the first quarter of game one, but that is where it stopped, as Melbourne took more and more control of the game.

Offensively the Ants just couldn’t find theri range on the inside and were missing the few opportunities they had to get themselves back into the game by some poor shooting and predictable ball movement. Jordon Crawford has not had a great playoffs a 3-13 night on sunday added to shooting guard’s woes. Jack McVeigh was heavily contained by the Melbourne bigs, restricting him to just 13 points, which is his lowest score of the postseason.

Defensively Melbourne had Tassie’s number, attacking the JackJumpers from the outside and nailing 50 percent of their three’s which is an 18.5 percent better conversion from the three-point line than they averaged this season.

Melbourne United Form & Team News

Melbourne came out aggressive against the JackJumpers and the tactic worked. United moved the ball down low and shifted it back outside to the likes of Chris Goulding, Ian Clark and Matt Dellavedova, who were ice cold from the three point line all night, with the trio hitting 12 of 20 from beyond the arc. Goulding finished the match with 22 points topping Melbourne with Jo Acuil finishing with 20 points and Ian Clark 18.

The whole Melbourne team found their range and did get overwhelmed by the occasion, burying 49.4 percent from the field and 50 percent from three. Melbourne were also way more aggressive under the rim, outboarding the JackJumpers 52-37 throughout the game with Jo Acuil topping the stat sheet with 11 dimes.
