Despite Cairns getting the win over the league’s best team Illawarra last start, they will now play a team that is being pressured to perform and have started to increase their offensive output.
The Kings are the 7th ranked scoring team in the league on the season but are 4th over the last 5 games played averaging 98.6 points per game. Xavier Cooks is working towards peaking at the right time of the season with 21 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists in the loss to United. Expect him to come out firing against a weaker Taipans defence.
Cairns will struggle to contain the scoring of Sydney as they rank 9th in opposition points over the last 5 games giving up an average of 101.6 per game. They just simply do not have the depth on their roster to match up on all the scoring threats.
Take Sydney to win and cover the line while going Over their Team Total. Rob Edwards was kept in check in both previous matchups, expect the same again and for him to go Under his points total.
- Sydney are 6-3 ATS in their last 9 games.
- The Kings are scoring 8 more points on average per game in their last 5 than they have all season.
- Cairns are allowing teams 101.6 pts per game across their last 5 games played, 2nd most in the NBL.
- Rob Edwards is averaging 19.2 pts on the year but had 10 and 5 pts in his 2 games against Sydney earlier this season.

Sydney Kings Form & Team News
Sydney fell short of their 3rd comeback win in as many games losing on a Melbourne United bucket with 2 seconds remaining on Thursday.
After being completely outplayed in the first quarter the Kings went in to the break down 32-16. A wake up call ensued with the team coming out and playing even in the 2nd and winning the third by 10 points to set up a thrilling finish.
Izayah Le’afa hit his first 3 of the game with only seconds remaining to lock the scores up with the game almost destined to go to OT. A defensive lapse off the inbound pass saw Melbourne get an easy backdoor bucket to win the game.
Rotations were again questionable in the game. Cam Oliver played just 11 minutes, scoring 3 points on 1-5 shooting. Jaylen Adams and Alex Toohey played fewer minutes than their season averages while the hot hands of Le’Afa and Kouat Noi both well exceeded their average minutes on the court.
The 88 points was Sydney’s lowest score since an 81 against Cairns on the 29th November. Sydney have lost 5 of 7 games this season when their opposition has scored 90+ points. They are also 1-7 against top 3 opponents.
Keli Leaupepe is out for the season and incoming import Lamonte Turner who was replacing the injured Jaylin Galloway has failed his medical meaning he will not join the team.
Cairns Taipans Form & Team News
Cairns are coming off a win against the Illawarra Hawks which snapped their 15 game losing streak. The Taipans have one of the busiest schedules ahead with 9 games over the remaining 5 rounds of basketball, 5 of those on the road.
Whilst their season may be over there is still lots to work on for the young team that returned to the winners circle in emphatic fashion out-scoring the NBL’s best scoring team 108-105.
Taran Armstrong and Rob Edwards both scored 28 pts in the win. Armstrong will be hoping to get to the NBA this year and Edwards is playing for another contract so teams that are finals bound will need to be wary of this Taipans team.
Cairns rank 9th in scoring and opposition points over their last 5 games.
Ako Gak is expected to return in this game while there is still no timeline on the return of Sam Waardenburg.
