Sydney Kings vs Brisbane Bullets Tips

The Sydney Kings will take on the Brisbane Bullets in an NBL regular-season game on Thursday, May 13. As the regular NBL season comes to a close, these final matches are vital as teams battle it out for playoff places. Sydney are currently third in the NBL Season Ladder, while Brisbane are sixth, with only the top-four teams contesting the NBL playoffs.

This will be the fourth time these two teams have faced each other this season, with Sydney leading 2-1. The Kings and the Bullets last played each other in early April, and on that occasion Sydney were victorious 90-71. Overall, the Sydney Kings have played 28 matches and have a 14-14 record, while the Brisbane Bullets have two games in hand and a record of 12-14, so there is still everything to play for.

The Sydney Kings go into their match against the Brisbane Bullets off the back of successive defeats against Melbourne United and the Adelaide 36ers. In their most recent match, Brisbane defeated the Cairns Taipans 96-87.

I’m backing the Bullets to pull off an upset and defeat Sydney on Thursday, as Brisbane make a late push for a playoff place.

  • Sydney 3rd in NBL Season Ladder
  • Sydney 14-14 this season
  • Brisbane 6th in NBL Season Ladder
  • Brisbane 12-14 this season

Head to Head

The Sydney Kings and the Brisbane Bullets have played each other 18 times in NBL games dating back to 2016. Sydney lead this head-to-head 13-5. In their last ten matches over the past two seasons, the Kings lead 8-2. Sydney and Brisbane have played each other three times in 2021, with the Kings 2-1 up. In their most recent match in April, the Sydney Kings were victorious 90-71.

Sydney Kings Form

The Sydney Kings are currently third in the NBL Season Ladder, behind league leaders Melbourne United and second placed Perth Wildcats. Sydney have virtually the exact same record as fourth-placed SE Melbourne Phoenix, with the Kings holding a slight edge due to a superior points-per-game average.

During the second half of April, Sydney enjoyed their best sequence of results, winning four consecutive matches for the first time all season, including two victories over SE Melbourne. However, they have lost both of the games they have played in May, going down to Melbourne United 103-78, and losing to the seventh-placed Adelaide 36ers 97-88 at the weekend.

 Brisbane Bullets Form

The players, coaching staff, management and fans of the Brisbane Bullets will be only too aware that a strong finish to the NBL regular-season could yet see them make the top four and reach the end of season playoffs. While Brisbane are currently sixth in the NBL Season Ladder with 12 wins and 14 defeats, they have two games in hand over all but one of the teams above them.

The Brisbane Bullets have seven regular-season matches left to play, and it’s a tough ask for them to win them all. However as long as they win the majority, and defeat potential playoff rivals the Sydney Kings and SE Melbourne, they are in with a shot of finishing in the top four.

Verdict

Despite the fact that the 3rd ranked Sydney Kings are three places above the Brisbane Bullets in the NBL Season Ladder, there’s little to separate these two teams, and should Brisbane win the two games in hand they have over Sydney, both teams would have identical records.

I’m backing the Brisbane Bullets to pull off a bit of an upset on Thursday and defeat the Sydney Kings as they make a charge for a playoff place. I’m predicting the Bullets will win this match convincingly by at least 10 points, in a contest that will feature around 180 points or more.
