The Phoenix were held to their lowest total of the season on Friday against the Kings but at the same time almost clinched the win against the competition favourites. SEM led at every break but a poor 4th quarter where they were outscored 25-13 erased the lead and allowed their opponents to take a 74-69 victory.
Jordan Hunter was kept quiet in the loss to the Kings picking up some early fouls reducing his minutes. He scored below his average of 10.8 pts and took only 2 boards compared to his season number of 7.5.
Derrick Walton Jr is expected to return in this matchup against Cairns and it will be interesting to see how the dynamic shifts with Nathan Sobey and how the ball is distributed around the team.
SEM are currently the 2nd best defensive team in the league allowing only 84 pts per game to their opponent. Something positive for a team that was expected to be at the bottom of that metric this season.
