Both teams head into this game coming off a disappointing loss on Friday night and are desperate for a victory which will aid in their postseason chances. A win for the Phoenix will see them stay in the hunt for a top 4 finish, while Adelaide still need a victory, or even two, to secure a play-in berth.

The Phoenix have been all class when playing in Melbourne playing a high-octane offensive game, while still managing to lockdown defensively, ranking third in scoring and points scored against.

Their strength and balance will be enough to get past Adelaide, as Jordan Hunter continues his strong rebounding game against the 36ers who are worst in the NBL in retrieving boards.

  • South East Melbourne have won 9 of their past 10 home games this season.
  • Adelaide are the worst rebounding team in the NBL averaging 38.9 rebounds per game while also ranking 8th with 42.4 opposition rebounds per game
  • The Phoenix ranks second in both points in the paint (44.7) and second chance points (13.7).
  • Jordan Hunter has had 8+ rebounds in 4 of his past 5 matches, averaging 10 RPG in his past 5 matches.

South East Melbourne Phoenix Form & Team News

The Phoenix missed an opportunity to leap over the Wildcats and into fourth in the standings, going down on the road to the Wildcats 100-99 on Friday night, after blowing a 12-point third quarter lead.

It was a good performance by the Phoenix who had 7 players score in double-digits in the match with Matt Hurt once again pushing his MVP credentials with 19 points and 7 rebounds. However, their depth couldn’t take them past Perth who shot at 53.6% in the match and found themselves at the free-throw line 11 more times than S.E.M did.

Despite a couple of recent losses, the Phoenix are building strong towards the play-in, ranked third in scoring with an average of 95.9 points per game while also ranking third with 90.9 opposition points per game.

With Sydney and Perth going head-to-head in the other match on Sunday it will be important for South East Melbourne to get the win on Sunday to give them a chance at locking some home court advantage in the first stage of the postseason.

Adelaide 36ers Form & Team News

Adelaide slipped up in a big way and have put their play-in spot in jeopardy after going down to Brisbane 92-89 in the only match that was expected to be an “easy” win in their run home.

Adelaide are one of the most efficient shooting teams in the NBL ranked second with a 47.3 FG% and third with a 36.6 3P% this season, however, their stars had a  stinker against Brisbane. Kendrick Davis shot at 31.8% from the field and dropped just 1 of 8 three point attempts. To make it worse Dejan Vasiljevic was also off, with 40.0 FG% and 30.7 3P%.

Adelaide’s usually accurate shooting is counteracted by their own poor defensive prowess, especially from the perimeter where they rank 10th in the NBL with a 37.4 opposition three point percentage and also poor rebounding where they rank 10th with a 24.1 offensive rebound percentage.
