Perth are one of the best shooting teams in the NBL with league MVP Bryce Cotton at the helm and they play a quick style of basketball getting points on the fast break. They come up against Melbourne United who are at their best when they control the tempo of the game and this will be where the match is won and lost.

United’s guards Shai Illi and Matt Dellavedova will dictate the movement of the ball on offence and make things as difficult as possible for Cotton to get into the game, forcing a reaction from the Wildcats who will need to count on Dylan Windler, Keanu Pinder and Elijah Pepper to produce points.

The Melbourne defence will do enough to keep this game low scoring which will play into their hands and gift them their third win of the season.

  • Melbourne ranks first in the NBL allowing their opponents just 3.3 fast-break points per game.
  • Perth have a field goal percentage of 44.8FG% over the first two rounds, ranked 7th in the NBL.
  • Melbourne ranks first in opposition 3P% at 29.2%.
  • 4 of the past 6 matches between Perth and Melbourne have gone under the game total of 180.5

Perth Wildcats Form & Team News

The Perth Wildcats were unable to back up their win from Hoops Fest with another in round 2, falling to Championship favourites the Sydney Kings on the final possession of the game.

The Wildcats couldn’t find league MVP Bryce Cotton in the final stages of the match and paid for it in the end with a 88-87 loss. The positive was that rookie Elijah Pepper stood up to the challenge and dropped 18 points from the bench and sinking 5-11 from 3-point range with a handful in the final quarter.

The disappointment for Perth in the match was the form of the masked man Keanu Pinder, who was simply in all sorts, registering just 1 point after scoring 29 in the opening match and almost stealing the show from Cotton in the Wildcats home opener.

Melbourne United Form & Team News

Melbourne started the year 2-0 after wins against NBL24 Grand Final rival Tasmania in the opening round and also getting up over South East Melbourne in Throwdown 31 to open round 2.

However they were then sent on the road to Tassie for the first instalment of the Battle of Bass Strait and their second meeting against the Jack Jumpers in 10 days. Thing didn’t go as they did in the first match of the NBL25 season, this time the Ants shutting down United’s guards and holding both Matthew Dellavedova and Shai Ili to a combined total of 14 points compared to the 35 they scored in the game 1.

Despite the loss, Melbourne have started the season extremely strong, especially on the defensive side of the ball ranked second in the NBL in opposition FG% (42.1%) and first in opposition 3P% (29.2). Melbourne are also ranked second in opposition 2nd chance points, giving up an average of just 11 points per game.
