Perth Wildcats vs Adelaide 36ers Tips

The Perth Wildcats and the Adelaide 36ers will play each other in an NBL regular-season game on Monday, March 15. This will be the first time these two teams have met this season. During the 2019-20 season Perth and Adelaide played each other four times, with honors spit split at two wins apiece. In their most recent game in February 2020 the Wildcats were winners by a scoreline of 94-79.

Despite a strong start to the season, Adelaide have struggled to maintain their original lofty league position. Meanwhile Perth are just getting into their stride, and are 4-1 in their last 5 games. Based off both teams form so far the season I’m backing the Perth Wildcats to win Monday’s game by a scoreline of 10 points or less in a game that will feature 175 total-points or more.

  • Perth 2nd in NBL Season Ladder
  • Perth reigning NBL Champions
  • Adelaide 6th in NBL Season Ladder
  • Adelaide are 7-9 this season

Head to Head

The Perth Wildcats and the Adelaide 36ers have played each other 49 times in NBL regular-season games. The Wildcats lead this head-to-head by 26 wins to 23. In their seven matches dating back to the beginning of 2019, Perth have the edge 4-3. In their most recent match, in February 2020, the Wildcats were 94-79 winners.

Perth Wildcats Form

The Perth Wildcats have played 12 matches so far in the NBL regular-season, with eight wins and four defeats for a win percentage of 66.67%. They are currently second in NBL Season Ladder behind Melbourne United, but will go top of the table within the next couple of games if results go their way.

Perth are 4-1 in their last five games, and have won their last two matches. Last time out on March 12, the Wildcats defeated the New Zealand Breakers 85-75, with Bryce Cotton their leading points scorer with 24. Cotton also led in assists (seven) while John Mooney led for the Wildcats with high rebounds (12).

Adelaide 36ers Form

The Adelaide 36ers are currently sixth in the NBL Season Ladder, with seven wins and nine defeats, giving them a 43.75% win rate. Last season, Adelaide finished seventh in the NBL Season Ladder with a record of 12 wins and 16 defeats. This season teams play 36 regular season games as opposed to the 28 of previous seasons. This is due to the inclusion of NBL Cup matches as part of the NBL’s regular season.

The 36ers had a promising start to the current season; they began the season in January with a defeat to Melbourne United, but would then go 5-1 for the rest of the month with wins over South East Melbourne Phoenix, the New Zealand Breakers and the Sydney Kings, and were second in the NBL Season Ladder. Unfortunately, the rest of the season has been a struggle for Adelaide, and they have won just three of their subsequent 10 matches. Last time out, the 36ers were defeated by the Brisbane Bullets 109-104.

Verdict

The Perth Wildcats are the most successful team in NBL history, and have been crowned NBL Champions a record 10 times. They are in fact the reigning NBL Champions, and are poised to go back to the top of the Season Ladder table unless current league leaders Melbourne United can rediscover the form that took them there.

Based off both teams form this season, I’m backing the Perth Wildcats to defeat the Adelaide 36ers by 10 points or less in a game that will finish with 175 points or more.
