Weekly Tips by Josh Higgins from The Basketball Fix Podcast

We are a third of the way throught the NBL25 season as we move into Round 7 with 8 games on the card this week. NBL expert Josh Higgins provides his best tips for each game with a best bet of the round.

Melbourne United vs Sydney Kings at John Cain Arena

It’s a battle of the heavyweights in this game and what a way to kick it all off. Melbourne come in to this game as favourites for a good reason, their mix of a strong offence and defence will help neutralise the Kings scoring which has faced challenges this season so far. You can expect this game to be close but the winners will be Melbourne United as they continue to build on their NBL25 season.

Jack White is the player I'm most excited about in this game as he looks to have finally found his feet this NBL season. Fresh off two double doubles last week, he will look to continue that trend and increase his already league high rebound numbers. He is a man on a mission this NBL25 season and this game will be no different.

Josh’s Tips: Melbourne United -2.5 & Jack White over 9.5 Rebounds (SGM: $2.63 PlayUp)

Tasmania JackJumpers vs South East Melbourne Phoenix at Silverdome

This game sets NBL fans up for an intriguing matchup. Both teams have had recent wins and are looking to get their seasons back on track. The JackJumpers fresh off of a solid win against the Brisbane Bullets will look to bring that winning form back home and get the job done again. Their 2-1 home record so far in NBL25 sets them up to walk away winners and continue to make the Silverdome one of the hardest places to win in the NBL.

For the Phoenix, forward Matt Hurt has been a man on a mission. He is currently averaging 20.6 PPG on 53.9% shooting on the field and with new head coach Josh King taking over this weekend, we can expect more of the same from Hurt. King has stated he wants a high ball movement offence constantly looking for the best shot and with his European background we all know that big men do benefit from it. It's Hurt's time to continue this trend.

Josh’s Tip: Tasmania JackJumpers To Win & Matt Hurt for 20+ Points (SGM: $3.25 Dabble)

Perth Wildcats vs Illawarra Hawks at RAC Arena

The Perth Wildcats last weekend escaped with the victory after an impressive win against the Sydney Kings without star guards Bryce Cotton and Tai Webster. This week they come up against one of the hottest teams in the NBL in Illawarra who are also without guard Trey Kell.

The game plan for the Wildcats is simple, limit Harvey and don't allow the Hawks to win the rebound count. With Webster back in the lineup, he will take care of Harvey while the rest of the team repeat their rebounding performance from last weekend. All things considered the Wildcats will walk away winners in front of their home fans.

In terms of great players in this one, we are spoilt for choice, but for the Wildcats to get on top it will be with the help of NBL MVP fancy, Kristian Doolittle. Doolittle who is averaging 10.6 RPG will look to replicate those numbers this week against the Hawks and shouldn't have too many issues in doing so with the Hawks giving up the 4th most rebounds per game to opposition teams.

Josh’s Tips: Perth Wildcats To Win ($2.24 Elitebet), Kristian Doolittle 10+ Rebounds ($1.65 PlayUp)

New Zealand Breakers vs Adelaide 36ers at Spark Arena

With two of the NBL MVP favourites meeting in this game it is going to be interesting to see who can lead their team to the victory. Montrezl Harrell is coming into this game in hot form after his 36 point, 16 rebound and 5 block game which saw him lead the 36ers to a come from behind victory. His averages of 19 PPG and 10.6 RPG this season, put him as the most dangerous player in this game. With the little resistance that the Breakers big men have shown this season, we can once again expect another huge game from Harrell.

With the 36ers fresh off of 5 wins in their past 6 matches it will be hard for the Breakers to win this one, even though they have won their past 5 games at home. This will be a tough game with both of these teams not afraid to make it physical and not afraid to make it a shootout. With the 36ers currently with a Over/Under record of 5-3, we can comfortably take the overs in this game as they will control the pace and tempo of this game.

Josh’s Tips: Game Total Over 174.5 ($1.88 Dabble), Montrezl Harrell Double Double ($1.71 Elitebet)

Cairns Taipans vs Brisbane Bullets at Cairns Convention Centre

With one of the games longest rivalries kicking back into action this week, we can expect a tough and physical encounter as both teams are hungry for wins. The Bullets who currently sit with a 2-4 record to start the season will look to build on their recent form of 2-2 against the struggling Taipans who have been losers in their past 5 games without star guard Taran Armstrong. This won't be a blowout win and it won't be pretty but for the Bullets right now, a win is a win.

Both of these teams have struggled to score the basketball and with the recent trends in the league with the game totals, the Under is where we want to be placing our money in this game. With both teams a combined 5-10 in Over/Under this season, it will take some special for these teams to have a massive game.

Josh’s Tip: Brisbane Bullets To Win & Game Total Under 175.5 (SGM $3.10 Dabble)

South East Melbourne Phoenix vs Perth Wildcats at John Cain Arena

With the Wildcats in season saving mode and tipped to win earlier in the round, they will look to continue their form against the Phoenix at John Cain Arena. The Wildcats have been winners in four of the last five games against the Phoenix having momentum in this clash. These two teams matched up in Round 1 of the NBL25 season with the WIldcats walking away 106-98 point winners at home.

In terms of once again the Over/Under in this game, if we follow the stats from this NBL season for both of these teams, this game will go Under. These teams are a combined 2-13 when it comes to the total bets and with both teams really struggling to find any consistent offence we can expect to see the same totals again in this game.

Josh’s Tips: Perth Wildcats Alternate line -4.5 ($2.61 PlayUp) & Game Total Under 178.5 ($1.89 Dabble)

Sydney Kings vs Tasmania JackJumpers at Qudos Bank Arena

With the Kings averaging 89 PPG as a team and the JackJumpers allowing only 84.3 PPG, it begs the question whether the Kings can score the ball at a good percentage. The saving grace for the Kings is that this game is at home with the JackJumpers being one of the competition's worst travelling teams this season. With their current road record of 1-4 and the Kings having one of the better home court advantages this is going to be an uphill battle for the JackJumpers and one that is too steep to climb.

The Kingswill be without star guard Jaylen Adams but luckily for them they have one of the best players in the game, Xavier Cooks. Cook's athleticism, speed and ability to change games will be needed for them to get the win. He is currently in the MVP race and with averages of 17.6 PPG and 9 RPG you can see why. Look for him to get on top in this game and take down the JackJumpers who will have no answers for him.

Josh’s Tips: Xavier Cooks 15+ Points and Sydney Kings To Win (SGM $2.00 PlayUp)

Melbourne United vs New Zealand Breakers at John Cain Arena

With the hottest team in the NBL, Melbourne United coming into this game potentially on a 3 game win streak, it will be the Breakers who will look to spoil the party. All things considered for the Breakers, this is going to be a very tough task as Melbourne United have established themselves as one of the best home teams in the NBL. FInishing last season as the number one ranked home team and currently sitting at 3-2 when at home, the Breakers will have a hard time coming out on top in this game.

With star guard Chris Goulding in good form this season and in particular the last couple of weeks as he has stepped up in the absence of Matthew Dellavedova and Shea Ili, the offence will once again rely on him. Goulding finished last weekend with 25 points against the Hawks and 15 points against the Taipans in which he only played 16 minutes. We can expect the star guard once again to find his hot form and lead United to victory.

Josh’s Tips: Chris Goulding For 20+ Points ($2.50 PlayUp), Melbourne United -5.5 ($1.90 Elitebet)
