In a thrilling move that's set to enliven the Australian Christmas tradition, the Hungry Jack's National Basketball League (NBL) is ramping up its festive offerings with not just one, but two spectacular games scheduled for December 25.

This initiative comes hot on the heels of last year's groundbreaking Christmas game, which captivated an audience of over 300,000 viewers.

Kicking off the Yuletide basketball bonanza, the Tasmania JackJumpers will mark their Christmas game debut by playing host to the South East Melbourne Phoenix. This high-octane clash is scheduled for 5:30 pm AEDT at the MyState Bank Arena in Hobart, with a full house expected to attend.

The excitement continues as the reigning back-to-back champions, the Sydney Kings, extend a Christmas invitation to their Freeway Series adversaries, the Illawarra Hawks. The much-anticipated showdown is set for 7:30 pm AEDT at Sydney's Qudos Bank Arena.

Larry Kestelman, NBL Executive Director and Owner, expressed his enthusiasm for the Christmas double-header. "Following the overwhelming response to last year's Christmas game, it was imperative for us to elevate this season's festive offering. The Sydney-Melbourne United game was a standout event, drawing massive viewership and creating an electric atmosphere both in-stadium and for TV audiences," Kestelman noted.

Kestelman is confident that the NBL is on the brink of establishing a new Christmas tradition in Australia and New Zealand, akin to the NBA's Christmas games in America. "Sports fans have voiced their desire for NBL action on Christmas Day. We're responding by not only meeting this demand but also pioneering new traditions in our growing league," he added.

For the JackJumpers, Co-CEO Christine Finnegan shared the excitement surrounding the club's involvement in the Christmas fixture. "It's a joy to host such a significant event and unite our community for a festive celebration. The 5:30 pm timeslot is ideal for Tasmanians, allowing for family time during the day and a new tradition in the evening," Finnegan remarked.

Paul Smith, Kings' Co-Owner and Chairman, anticipates high demand for the Kings' second consecutive Christmas game. "The Sydney Kings are thrilled to bring back Christmas night hoops with a Freeway Series clash against the Hawks. We're planning an entire month of promotions leading up to the game, focusing on giving and community spirit," Smith said.
