Illawarra Hawks vs New Zealand Breakers Tips

The San Pit will be the Hawks nest to defend as they beat the Breakers in the fight for a playoff berth against Melbourne, as they contain Parker Jackson-Cartwright to gain victory.

The Hawks under performed and let the moment get to them against Tasmania in their 16-point loss. A lot more was expected from them and there was no man more underwhelmed than coach Justin Tatum, who was not shy in saying that he was far from impressed.

It was the bigs of the JackJumpers that did a lot of the damage against the Hawks, but they will not have to overcome the same level of physicality from the Breakers as they did against the league’s best defensive team, Tasmania.

Parker Jackson-Cartwright ran rings around the Kings and he will need to be contain if the Hawks want to get through and make an unlikely appearance in the NBL24 playoffs, a job easier said than done.

I expect that the Hawks will get through this one, but I do not like the 3.5-point line considering all three games between these teams were decided by 4 points or less. A long with the Hawks money line the Under game total of 174.5 is the play as all three games have gone under that total between the Hawks and the Breakers. To add weight to that argument, if the Hawks contain PJC to a lower score than project then the game total will follow suit.

  • The Hawks won 2 of 3 games against the Breakers this season, including their 1 home game.
  • The Hawks have won their last 3 games at WIN Entertainment Centre.
  • The game total between these teams did not exceeded 174.5 point in all three games this season.
  • 5 of the last 7 New Zealand Breakers games have ended with a game total of less than 174.5 points.

Illawarra Hawks Form & Team News

Coach Tatum said that he was not pleased in any way with the Hawks performance in their 92-76 point loss to the JackJumpers on Wednesday and I certainly would not of been either.

The Hawks let the game slip away in the first quarter trailing by 12 points after the first 10 mins. Then then kept the game within reach in the middle phase of the game but then were outscored by 9 points in the fourth in a disappointing loss.

Despite shooting well from outside 38.1 percent from the 3-point line, the Hawks finished the game with field goal percentage of just 40.8, hitting just 21 shots from 50 attempts inside the arc. On the otherside of the ball Tassie hit 50.0 percent from the field and 40.9 from outside.

Also a concern for Illawarra was the 13 turnovers they had compared to the JackJumpers 6.

New Zealand Breakers Form & Team News

Parker Jackson-Cartwright proved to his doubters that he is one of the top-3 guys in the NBL this season, as the Sydney Kings had no answer for the guards 34 points, 6 assists and 5 rebounds. PJC did what he liked against the Kings and was the only focalpoint for the Breakers offence and could not be stopped as New Zealand ran away with an 83-76 win.

The Breakers also forced Sydney to shoot from well beyond the three-point line, giving them no looks to move the ball inside, reducing the league’s highest-scoring team to just 76 points, a total that they have scored well over since week  2 of the season.

Despite picking up an ankle injury that looked to end his night, Zylan Cheatham scored 18 points and looked strong in the pain, while Mangok Mathiang was impressive with 10 rebounds
