Brisbane Bullets vs Perth Wildcats Tips

The 6th ranked Brisbane Bullets will take on the 2nd placed Perth Wildcats in an NBL regular-season game on Friday, April 23. This will be the second time these two teams have played each other in 2021, with another two games scheduled for May. Brisbane won their previous meeting in March 95-92.

The Bullets have struggled to find any level of consistency this season, despite defeating some good teams. They will go into Friday’s game off the back of two successive defeats, losing to Melbourne United and the New Zealand Breakers last week. Perth are the defending NBL Champions, and were top of the league until losing to the Adelaide 36ers last week. Last time out they lost again, this time to New Zealand 83-78.

I’m backing the Perth Wildcats to win this match, purely based off the fact that they have everything to play for, while the Brisbane Bullets are only playing for pride, if that.

  • Brisbane 6th in NBL Season Ladder
  • Brisbane 10-12 this season

Head to Head

Since 2016, the Brisbane Bullets and the Perth Wildcats have played each other 19 times in the NBL. Overall, Perth lead this head-to-head by 11 wins to 8. In the five matches they have played during last season and this one, Brisbane lead 3-2. When they last met in March of this year, Brisbane won a close encounter 95-92.

Perth Wildcats Form

The Perth Wildcats are the current NBL Champions, and are the most successful team in the history of the championships, with ten titles. Perth enjoyed a spell at the top of the NBL season ladder, during which they won nine-straight games, and went 15-1 until losing to the Adelaide 36ers.

This season Melbourne United’s relentless consistency has prevented the Wildcats from an extended stay at the top of the league. After bouncing back from their loss to Adelaide with wins over Illawarra and New Zealand, they suffered another shock defeat, this time in a rematch with the Breakers, who beat Perth 83-78.

Brisbane Bullets Form

The Brisbane Bullets are currently sixth in the NBL Season Ladder, with a record of 10 wins and 12 defeats. Despite their poor record, Brisbane have beaten the Big Two of this season, Melbourne United and the Perth Wildcats, as well as playoff contenders Sydney Kings and Illawarra Hawks.

However, it has been those twelve defeats that have cost Brisbane dearly this season. For example, the New Zealand Breakers have spent all 2021 in the bottom two of the Season Ladder, but have beaten the Bullets three times in four meetings, including Brisbane’s last match, which New Zealand won by a 20-point margin, 91-71.

Verdict

Right now the Perth Wildcats are suffering from the biggest loss of form and drop in moral they have suffered all season, exemplified by their recent losses to the lowly ranked Adelaide and New Zealand. Were it not for the even worse form of the Brisbane Bullets, who were just beaten by 20 points by the 8th ranked New Zealand Breakers, this match would be an even bet.

However, the Bullets seem to have almost given up, while the Wildcats still have everything to play for. That’s why I’m backing Perth to pull off a win over Brisbane by ten points or less in a match that will feature under 170 points total.
