Utah Jazz @ Phoenix Suns Tips
The top-two teams in this season’s NBA go head to head in a heavyweight clash of US basketball’s Titans this Saturday. In what could be a dress rehearsal for the Western Conference finals later this year, no.1 team in the NBA this season the Utah Jazz take on the team currently ranked second, the Phoenix Suns in a regular season game on April 30 at the Phoenix Suns Arena in Phoenix, Arizona. The winner of this game will top the Western Conference.
This will be the third meeting of the season between Utah and Phoenix, and unless they were to meet in the playoffs, this will also be Utah’s last chance of beating Phoenix in 2021. Previously, the Suns defeated the Jazz at the start of the current season back in December, 106-95. Four months later in April, Phoenix again defeated Utah, this time in a closely fought contest by 117-113.
While Utah have dominated the Western Conference all season, Phoenix started slowly and were a shambles in January, going 3-7 between January 4-28. Those seven defeats still account for almost half of the Suns’ total losses all season. By February Phoenix were firing on all cylinders, losing just twice that month, and only three times in March. In April Phoenix are 12-4, Utah are 10-6, while the third-placed LA Clippers are 11-4.
I’m backing the Phoenix Suns to make it 3-0 in wins over the Utah Jazz for the 2021 regular season, with victory on Saturday. Needless to say, this will be edge-of-the-seat stuff, with Phoenix winning an intense matchup by a margin of 10 points or less.

Head to Head
The Utah Jazz and the Phoenix have played each other 188 times in regular-season NBA games. The Suns currently lead that head-to-head by 95 wins to 93. In their eight most recent matches from the past two seasons plus the current one, the Jazz lead 5-3. In 2021 the score is 2-0 to the Phoenix Suns. Phoenix defeated Utah at the start of the season in December 106-95, and beat them again April 117-113.
Utah Jazz Form
To put some perspective on what an astonishing season the Utah Jazz have had already, in the month of April they have suffered as many defeats – six – as they did throughout February and March combined. It’s testament to how far ahead of everybody else Utah were that even though they have suffered more losses recently than normal, they are still top of the Western Conference.
That said, if they lose their match against Sacramento on Thursday and then get beaten by Phoenix on Saturday, and should other results go against them, either the LA Clippers or Phoenix themselves could top the Western Conference this weekend. The Jazz did themselves no favours in inexplicably losing back-to-back games against the Minnesota Timberwolves this week. Minnesota are second from bottom of the Western Conference and playing for nothing but pride, and yet they twice ran out winners, 101-96 on Sunday, and 105-104 and on Tuesday. However, Utah were at their absolute best in their most recent game, beating Sacramento by almost 50 points in a 154-105 rout.
Phoenix Suns Form
What an incredible season the Phoenix Suns are having in 2021; last year they finished outside of the playoff places with a record 34 wins against 39 defeats. And yet even that was an improvement on 2019, when Phoenix finished rock bottom of the Western Conference with a slate of 19-63. When one looks at those cold hard facts, the achievements of head coach Monty Williams and the team’s general manager James Jones in restructuring a team of losers into the machine they are today is nothing short of astonishing.
And yet, in some ways the season is only just beginning: With 11 games left to play of the regular-season Phoenix are guaranteed to be seeded in the playoffs, and from then on it is very much in their hands. Back in February this writer picked Phoenix to win their first NBA championships this year, and while the rapid rise of the LA Clippers have certainly caught everybody’s attention, I’m sticking with my prediction.
In the meantime, after their incredible victory over a rampaging New York Knicks team chasing what would’ve been a tenth-straight victory, Phoenix looked even better edging out the Clippers in a gripping battle 109-101.

Both of these teams put on brilliant and very different displays on Thursday, Utah were a masterclass in scoring, defeating Sacramento 154-105.Meanwhile, the Suns beat the team who would have taken second-place from them, the LA Clippers 109-101 (Bets.com.au correctly predicted the result, margin of victory and points total for this game.)
I’m backing the Phoenix Suns to defeat the Utah Jazz in what will undoubtedly be an edgy, tense clash between probably the two best teams in the NBA this season. This game will feature around 220 points, with both teams playing with the tactical awareness of chess grandmasters. Phoenix will emerge victorious by a margin of 10 points or less.
