Phoenix Suns @ Milwaukee Bucks Live Stream & Tips

The Phoenix Suns face the Milwaukee Bucks Eastern in game no.4 of the 2021 NBA Championship Finals on Thursday, July 15. On Monday Milwaukee scored a decisive 120-100 win over Phoenix - their first of the finals – reducing the Suns series lead to 2-1. Phoenix had previously won both opening games relatively comfortably, and had threatened to run away with the series.

The very nature of Milwaukee’s win has made the bookies sit up and take notice and install them as favorites for Thursday’s match, even though they trail 1-2 in the actual series. Milwaukee are 5/9 to win on Thursday, with Phoenix at 8/5.

The Phoenix Suns are the Western Conference champions and the Milwaukee Bucks are the Eastern Conference winners. During the regular season, Phoenix finished second in the Western Conference behind the Utah Jazz, while Milwaukee finished third in Eastern Conference behind the Philadelphia 76ers and the Brooklyn Nets.

En route to the NBA Championship Finals, Phoenix defeated the LA Lakers 4-2 in the first round, then in the WC Conference semifinals the beat the Denver Nuggets 4-0. In the WC Conference final they overcame the LA Clippers 4-2. Milwaukee began their playoffs with a 4-0 victory over the Miami Heat, then in the EC Semifinals they overcame the Brooklyn Nets 4-3. In the EC finals they defeated the Atlanta Hawks 4-2

This writer first began predicting the Phoenix Suns would go all the way midway through the regular-season, and I’m backing them to take a 3-1 series lead in the NBA Championship Finals on Thursday, winning a close match by 10 points or less.

Head to Head

The Milwaukee Bucks and the Phoenix Suns have played each other 146 times in regular-season games, with Phoenix currently having a slight edge 75-71. As these two teams compete in separate conferences, their paths rarely cross, and they have only played each other six times in the past three seasons. Phoenix have a 5-1 edge in those matches. Phoenix won both of the two matches they played against Milwaukee in 2021, although each was ridiculously close - the Suns winning by a solitary point each time, 125-124 in February, and 128-127 in April.

Phoenix Suns Form

Throughout the 2021 NBA regular season Phoenix enjoyed the luxury of a trio of points-scorers in Devin Booker, Chris Paul and Deandre Ayton. Booker averaged 27.0 points per game, Paul averaged 18.1 but led the stats for assists and steals, while Ayton averaged 16.2 points per game, and was also the Phoenix stat leader for rebounds and blocks. Booker, Paul and Ayton have continued their great form into the playoffs and if anything have raised their game.

That said, all three found themselves overshadowed on Monday by the towering performance of Milwaukee’s giant power-forward Giannis Antetokounmpo. The 26-year old Greek-Nigerian hit 41 points  as his team won 120-100 and stopped Phoenix taking a 3-0 lead in the finals. The Suns will need to do a much better job in containing Antetokounmpo in game no.4 on Thursday, or risk losing their slight finals lead.

Milwaukee Bucks Form

One decisive victory can be a game-changer – literally – and the bookies clearly think that’s the case following the Milwaukee Bucks 20-point win over the Phoenix Suns on Monday. Suddenly Milwaukee are the bookies’ favorites at 5/9 to win on Thursday, with the Phoenix Suns at 8/5, despite them leading the series 2-1.

Clearly the bookies where hugely impressed with the performance of Milwaukee’s Giannis Antetokounmpo, who recovered from an ankle injury incurred two weeks previously to score 41 points in Monday’s Bucks victory. They obviously believe that now fit, the 6’11” 250 lb Antetokounmpo will be almost impossible for Phoenix to contain, and that could well be the case. Also, Thursday’s game might be the last Milwaukee’s Fiserv Forum so they will need to make it count.

Verdict

The Milwaukee Bucks and the Phoenix Suns proved their worth by being crowned Kings of the Eastern and Western Conferences respectively and earning their places in the 2021 NBA Championship Finals. However, for a while it looked as if the class of Phoenix might see the Suns run away with the finals series when they took an early 2-0 lead.

However Monday’s emphatic 120-100 win for Milwaukee, spearheaded by their almost 7’ 250 lb juggernaut Giannis Antetokounmpo who scored 41 of those points, showed that the Bucks have the firepower to level the series at the very least.

While the bookies are certainly impressed enough with the Bucks to make them favorites for Thursday’s game, I’m backing the Phoenix Suns to double-down on Antetokounmpo and eke out a close win by ten points or less.
