Phoenix Suns @ LA Lakers Tips

Two of the very best teams in the Western Conference go head-to-head when the Phoenix Suns play the LA Lakers at the Staples Center in Los Angeles in an NBA regular game on Wednesday, March 3. This will be the first time these two teams have played each other this season, with two more meetings between them scheduled for the coming weeks.

The Phoenix Suns have won 22 of the 33 games they played this season and are currently fourth in the Western Conference. The LA Lakers have won 24 of their 36 league games and currently second in the Western Conference behind the Utah Jazz.

Despite the Lakers consistent dominance of Phoenix during the past few seasons, I’m going for the form team in this game, and backing the Suns to defeat Los Angeles by 10 points or less in a game that will feature a total of 230 points or less.

Head to Head

The Phoenix Suns and the LA Lakers have played each other 252 times in regular-season games in the NBA. Right now, the LA Lakers lead the head-to-head by 145 wins to 107. These two teams have played each other seven times over the past two seasons, and the Lakers have dominated those meetings, leading 7-1. In their most recent match in February 2020, the Lakers won clearly 125-100.

Phoenix Suns Form

This season the Phoenix Suns have remained steadily in fourth place in the Western Conference, tucked in behind the LA duo of the Lakers and Clippers and runaway leaders the Utah Jazz. Phoenix have played 33 games, winning 22 and losing 11, for an average win percentage of 0.667.

Phoenix lost seven games in January, but proved to be a much tougher team to beat in February, losing just three times. Meanwhile, since the end of January and beginning of March, Phoenix have scored 14 victories. Such consistency has led the Suns to being ranked the fourth best team in the NBA according to the NBA league, recently overtaking the Philadelphia 76ers and Brooklyn Nets.

Phoenix go into Wednesday's game against the Lakers in great shape, having lost just once in their  last six games. On Monday Phoenix dominated Minnesota, winning 118-99. Outstanding in that game was Devin Booker who scored 43 points, DeAndre H and eight and with 10 rebounds while Chris Paul provided an amazing 15 assists.

LA Lakers Form

The reigning NBA champions have had a running battle all season with Western Conference rivals the Utah jazz and the LA Clippers for bragging rights. Currently, Utah top the division with the Lakers in second spot. Los Angeles top the Pacific Division ahead of the Clippers with 24 wins and 11 defeats for a 0.686 win percentage.

Fans of Lebron James will be pleased to see that the Lakers have pulled themselves out of the slump they had gotten into with four straight defeats, and have now won two on the bounce. On Monday the Lakers comfortably defeated the Golden State Warriors 117-91.

The team as a whole have had to step up while Lebron James continues to struggle to find his best form. Even in the win over the warriors, James only scored 19 points, which still made him top scorer on the night. James hasnt scored more than 30 points in a game since early February.

Where can I watch a Phoenix Suns @ LA Lakers live stream?

Our live streaming calendar shows you where you can watch a Phoenix Suns @ LA Lakers live stream.

In terms of current form, one would think that Phoenix would be the likely winners of this game, as they have had the greater consistency, fewer defeats, and their best players are scoring more points than those of the Lakers.

That said, a quick look at their head-to-head reveals that the Lakers have some kind of hex over Phoenix, with the Sun’s winning only one game of the last seven over the past two seasons.
Regardless of strange forces and hexes, I am going to go with the logical pick which is Phoenix to defeat the Lakers by 10 points or less in a game with 230 points or less.
