Minnesota Timberwolves @ Philadelphia 76ers Tips
The Philadelphia 76ers take on the Minnesota Timberwolves this Saturday (April 3) in an NBA inter-conference regular-season game. This will be the second time that Philadelphia and the Timberwolves have played each other this season - at the end of January the 76ers defeated Minnesota 118-94, with Joel Embiid scoring 37 points.
The 76ers and the Timberwolves have taken very different paths this season, and while Philadelphia have spent the first three months of the year at the top end of the Eastern Conference, the Timberwolves have spent that time struggling at the bottom of the Western Conference.
Both teams go into this match off the back of victories, but that’s where the similarity ends; the 76ers are one of the best teams in the NBA this season and I’m backing them to defeat the Timberwolves comprehensively by a scoreline of at least 10 points.
- 76ers 2nd in Eastern Conference
- 76ers 33-15 this season
- Timberwolves 5th in WC Northwest Division
- Timberwolves 12-36 this season
Head to Head
The Philadelphia 76ers and the Minnesota Timberwolves have played each other 59 times, with the 76ers leading their head-to-head by 30 wins to 29. As they are in separate conferences, over the past three seasons they have met just five times, with the 76ers leading 5-0. In their most recent game which took place in January of this year, Philadelphia won 118-94.
Philadelphia 76ers Form
The Philadelphia 76ers are currently second in the NBA Eastern Conference with a record of 33 wins against 15 defeats, which equates to a 0.688 win percentage. Those figures were even more impressive a couple of weeks ago when, after winning 10 of their last 11 games, the 76ers suffered back-to-back defeats for the first time since February.
As a result, the Brooklyn Nets eclipsed them at the top of the Eastern Conference, although overall Philadelphia are still the fourth-ranked team in the NBA this season. On Friday (April 2) the 76ers bounced back from those defeats with a comprehensive 114-94 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers, with Shake Milton scoring 27 points and Dwight Howard hitting 15 high rebounds.
Minnesota Timberwolves Form
The Minnesota Timberwolves are currently bottom of the Western Conference Northwest Division, with a record of 12 wins and 36 defeats. Minnesota have struggled to find any kind of form all season, suffering two particularly severe sequences of defeats, first in early January where they lost seven consecutive games, and again in February, this time losing nine games on the bounce.
Compared to those two losing streaks, the Timberwolves’ current sequence of two wins and two defeats in their last four games might be a sign of better things to come. In their most recent game, Minnesota defeated the New York Nicks by the narrowest possible margin, winning 102-101.

The Philadelphia 76ers won the last of their three NBA championships back in 1983, and this could be the year they finally win their fourth. Along with the Utah Jazz, Phoenix Suns, plus of course defending champions the LA Lakers, Philadelphia are on a shortlist of favourites in the running for this year’s NBA championships.
I’m backing the 76ers to beat the Minnesota Timberwolves on Saturday by a margin of 10 points or more, in a matchup that will feature a combined points total of around 220.
