Milwaukee Bucks @ LA Lakers Tips

The Milwaukee Bucks take on the LA Lakers at the Staples Center on Thursday (April 1) in an NBA inter-conference regular-season matchup. Milwaukee are currently third in the Eastern Conference behind only the Philadelphia 76ers in pole position and the second placed Brooklyn Nets. The Lakers were second in the Western Conference but are now back in fourth, trailing the leaders Utah, as well as Phoenix, and city rivals the LA Clippers.

This will be the second time the Bucks and the Lakers have played each other this year; back in January Los Angeles defeated Milwaukee 113-106, with their superstar LeBron James scoring 34 points and grabbing 8 assists. The Lakers go into this game off the back of two straight wins, while the Bucks are attempting to end a three-match losing streak. However, the Lakers will be without their two best players LeBron James and Anthony Davis, who are both injured.

I’m therefore backing Milwaukee to end said losing streak with a victory over the Lakers on Thursday. The Bucks will win this game convincingly by at least 10 points.

  • Bucks 3rd in Eastern Conference
  • Bucks 29-16 this season
  • Lakers 3rd in Western Conference
  • Lakers 31-16 this season

Head to Head

The Milwaukee Bucks and the LA Lakers have played each other a total of 139 times, with the Lakers currently ahead 83-56. As these two teams are in different conferences, they don’t play each other as regularly as they would if they shared the same conference. Over the past three seasons, they have met just five times, and the Bucks lead 3-2. Their most recent game was in January 2021, and on that occasion Los Angeles were victorious 113-106.

Milwaukee Bucks Form

The Milwaukee Bucks are top of their Central Division and third in the Eastern Conference, with 29 wins against 17 defeats. Milwaukee are seventh in the NBA league, having previously been fifth, above the Lakers and the Clippers, before losing their last three games.

Prior to their current mini-slump, Milwaukee had lost just once in 14 matches, a sequence that changed the course of their season dramatically. Prior to that, the Bucks had been struggling to regain their early season form, and had lost five straight matches.

If the LA Lakers have relied on LeBron James to get them results this season, the same can be said for Milwaukee’s incredibly talented Greek-Nigerian giant Giannis Antetokounmpo, who is the Bucks’ stat leader for PPG with 28.4, rebounds with 11.4 and assists with 6.3. Even though Milwaukee lost on Tuesday to the LA Clippers, Antetokounmpo still scored 32 points.

LA Lakers Form

The LA Lakers are currently fourth in the Western Conference, having once again swaped places with city rivals the LA Clippers. The Lakers have won 30 and lost 17 for a 0.638 win percentage. While the reigning NBA champions look a certainty to reach the playoffs, their inconsistency this season has lost them some of their luster, and few experts now pick them to retain their title.

Each time the Lakers string some wins together, it’s quickly followed by a string of defeats. Earlier this month LA won four-straight matches, then promptly lost the next four on the bounce. They have since won their last two, defeating the Cleveland Cavaliers 100-86, and last time out beating the Orlando Magic 96-93 on Monday (March 29).

Our live streaming calendar shows you where you can watch a Milwaukee Bucks @ LA Lakers live stream

If the LA Lakers had had their two best players - LeBron James and Anthony Davis - fit and healthy for this match I wouldn’t hesitate to back them. However both men are out injured and won’t be playing against the Milwaukee Bucks on Thursday.
Because of this, and because Giannis Antetokounmpo will be playing, I’m backing Milwaukee to win this match comfortably, by at least 10 points in a game that will feature around 220 points.
