Los Angeles Lakers vs Memphis Grizzlies Tips - Lakers to thrash struggling Grizzlies

The Los Angeles Lakers entertain the Memphis Grizzlies at the Staples Center on Saturday. The Lakers are enjoying their best run of form this season, and that’s reflected by them winning six straight games. By comparison, the Grizzlies’ win over Charlotte on Thursday was their first in five games. 

The Lakers are vying with the Utah Jazz as the best team in the NBA this season, and they will be way too good for Memphis. I’m picking Los Angeles to win by at least ten points in a game that breaks the 220 total points’ margin.  

The Los Angeles Lakers and the Memphis Grizzlies have played each other 94 times, with the Lakers leading their head to head by 59 wins to 35. In their last six matches, the Lakers lead 5-1, including the two most recent meetings in early January. 

An interesting sidebar is that games between these two teams are almost always low scoring affairs, and only a handful of games over the past ten seasons have broken 220 points combined. 

The Lakers have improved as the season has progressed, and they are now top of the Pacific Division, and sit second behind the Utah Jazz in the Western Conference. Los Angeles have won 20 games and lost six, the second best record in the NBA. 

The Lakers are on a six game winning streak, their best run of the season. Big points scorers for the Lakers have been LeBron James and Anthony Davis. James’ biggest points haul was 46 against Cleveland in January. Davis scored 37 points against Chicago that month for his highest tally. 

The Grizzlies are second in the Southeast Division, behind the San Antonio Spurs. They are back in tenth spot in the Western Conference, and any shot at a playoff berth would seem a distant dream. 

The Grizzlies have won ten and lost ten this season, although they are 6-4 in their last 10 games. On Thursday Memphis defeated Charlotte to end a four game losing streak. However, prior to that the Grizzlies had won seven on the bounce.
