Golden State Warriors @ Los Angeles Lakers Live Stream & Tips

In an NBA heavyweight clash, the Golden State Warriors take on the Los Angeles Lakers in the Western Conference Play-in game on Wednesday, May 19. This matchup between the Western Conference’s 7th ranked Lakers and 8th placed Warriors features two teams with a combined total of 23 NBA championship wins. The winner progresses to the NBA Playoffs, while the loser gets another chance against the winner of the match between the 9th and 10th ranked teams.

Wednesday’s game will also feature two of the greatest players of all time in the Lakers’ LeBron James and Steph Curry of Golden State. These two have played against each other 22 times previously in playoff games, and on Wednesday they’ll participate in the Western Conference's first-ever No. 7 vs. No. 8 Play-in game. The stakes could not be higher, as this is a one-off match, whereas regular Playoff clashes are over the best-of seven games.

As the defending champions, the Lakers began this season looking great, but after a few weeks a steady decline in form and consistency set in. The loss of Anthony Davis and LeBron James through injury proved catastrophic, and although James returned, the Lakers were overall a shambles. Incredibly, just when they looked like they might slip out of the playoff places, the Lakers rallied to win their final five matches and finish seventh.

Golden State are the third most successful team in NBA history with six championships. They have won five Western Conferences in the past seven seasons since 2015. On three of those occasions - 2015, 2017 and 2018 - they went on to win the NBA Championship. With such recent pedigree, and with Steph Curry still very much a force to be reckoned with, they cannot be counted out of contention this year.

I’m backing the Golden State Warriors to defeat the LA Lakers in their Western Conference Play-in game on Wednesday. Both teams are in good form, but while Golden State have been playing well for months, the Lakers have been erratic – to say the least.

  • Golden State 8th in Western Conference
  • Golden State 39-33 this season
  • Lakers 7th in Western Conference
  • Lakers 42-30 this season

Head to Head

The LA Lakers and Golden State have played each other 426 times in regular-season NBA games, with the Lakers currently leading their head-to-head by 257 wins to 169. In their 10 most recent matches over the past three seasons, the Lakers lead the Warriors 6-4. These teams played each other three times in 2021 with the score 2-1 to Los Angeles. Their last match came in March, with the Lakers winning 128-97.

Golden State Warriors Form

While the Golden State Warriors didn’t have the best of seasons, they managed to win a few more than they lost, finishing with a 39-33 record that put them eighth in the Western Conference standings. Nevertheless Golden State’s superstar Steph Curry had another fantastic season, topping the scoring stats with a 32-point average. At 32 he looks as good as ever.

It was Curry who raised his game over the last couple of weeks to guarantee his team’s playoff safety.  The Warriors won their last six-straight games, with Curry finishing top scorer four times, ending his regular season with 46 points scored vs the Memphis Grizzlies in Golden State’s final game, which they won 113-101.

Los Angeles Lakers Form

In 2020 the Los Angeles Lakers were crowned NBA Champions for a record-equalling 17th time, drawing level with the Boston Celtics. As we all know, the Lakers 2021 season began well, but soon became something of a car crash, and following the injury induced departure of LeBron James and Anthony Davis, the Lakers began losing a lot of matches. Even after James returned, they were a shadow of themselves.

From late-April to the start of May, Los Angeles went 2-8 in ten games, but just when it looked as if the Lakers might actually miss the playoffs, the team rallied to win its last five matches on the bounce. In their final game of the regular season – a 110-98 win over New Orleans - LeBron James finished top scorer for the first time in two months with 25 points.

Where can I watch a Golden State Warriors @ LA Lakers live stream?

Our live streaming calendar shows you where you can watch a Golden State Warriors @ LA Lakers live stream

Both the LA Lakers and the Golden State Warriors go in to this Western Conference Play-in game off the back of winning runs, five games for the Lakers and six for the Warriors. Prior to that, LA had gone 2-8 in their previous ten matches, while Golden State were 9-5 in their last 13.
In other words, while the Lakers had to raise their game massively to avoid the potential disaster of missing the playoffs, the Warriors were already playing well, and it was Steph Curry who simply rallied his troops to kick it up a notch.
Because they’ve been the better team for a couple of months, and the Lakers recent run is something of a smokescreen, I’m backing the Golden State Warriors to defeat the Los Angeles Lakers on Wednesday by at least ten points in a matchup that will feature around 230 points.
