Denver Nuggets @ Phoenix Suns Live Stream & Tips

The Denver Nuggets take on the Phoenix Suns in game two of their Western Conference Playoff Semifinal series on Wednesday, June 9. On Monday, Phoenix took the lead when they won the opening game 122-105, with the Suns’ Mikel Bridges top scorer with 23 points.

Monday’s game saw both teams start strongly and maintain that intensity throughout the first two quarters. At half time there was literally only one point separating them, with the score 59-58 Phoenix. However, in the third quarter the Suns upped their level and began to pull away, dominating the final quarter and eventually winning by a margin of 17 points.

This writer backed Phoenix to go all the way and win their first NBA championship two months ago, soon after they had turned their season around and begun climbing the table. In their opening playoff series against the LA Lakers, Phoenix at times looked like a lack of experience at that level might cost them against the defending champions, but they gradually began to believe in themselves and won the series 4-2.

On Monday the Phoenix Suns carried that winning mentality into their opening game against the Denver Nuggets, winning comfortably. I’m backing them to look even more impressive in game 2 on Wednesday. Phoenix will win by at least 10 points, in a matchup that will feature around 220 points.

  • Phoenix finished 2nd in Western Conference
  • Phoenix were 51-21 this season
  • Nuggets finished 3rd in Western Conference
  • Nuggets were 47-25 this season

Head to Head

The Denver Nuggets and the Phoenix Suns have played each other 182 times in regular-season NBA games. Phoenix currently lead that head-to-head by 98 wins to 84. In their 11 most recent matches over the past three seasons, the Nuggets lead 9-2. In 2021 Denver and Phoenix played each other three times, with the score finishing at 2-1 to the Nuggets.

Denver Nuggets Form

Like the Phoenix Suns, the Denver Nuggets underperformed in the first half of the regular season and were heading for at best a mid-table finish. However, just like the Suns, Denver showed their fighting spirit to finish third in the Western Conference, behind leaders Utah Jazz and second-placed Phoenix.

In the NBA Playoffs First Round, Denver came from a game down against the Portland Trail Blazers to win four of the next five and take the series 4-2. Denver’s main points’ scorer this season has been their Serbian star Nikola Jokic who also leads Denver’s stats for rebounds, assists and steals. Jokic scored 30+ points in five of the six matches Denver played against Portland, but significantly Phoenix limited his output to just 22 points on Monday in their 122-105 victory.

Phoenix Suns Form

The defining match of the Phoenix Suns first round playoff series against the LA Lakers came in game four, after the Lakers had come from a game down to take a 2-1 lead. Had Los Angeles won a third consecutive match that Sunday for a 3-1 lead, Phoenix would surely have been beaten. However, the Suns dug deep to edge out the victory, and never looked back. They would go on to win the next two games and take the series 4-2.

On Monday Phoenix defeated the Denver Nuggets 122-105 in Game 1 of their western Conference Playoff Semifinal. The Suns have now won four consecutive playoff games in a row, and any self-doubt on their behalf now seems long gone. It will take a Herculean effort for Denver to get on the scoresheet because right now the Phoenix Suns look more than capable of whitewashing them in this series.

Verdict

On Monday the Phoenix Suns defeated the Denver Nuggets by a 17 point margin, winning 122-105 to take a 1-0 lead in their Western Conference Playoff Semifinal.

Based off Monday’s performance and the fact that they have now won four consecutive playoff games, I’m backing the Phoenix Suns to defeat the Denver Nuggets again on Wednesday to take a 2-0 series lead, winning by a margin of 10 points or more in a matchup that will feature around 220 points.
