Cleveland Cavaliers @ Atlanta Hawks Tips
The Cleveland Cavaliers take on the Atlanta Hawks in an NBA Eastern Conference regular season game on Sunday, March 14. Cleveland are currently 13th in the Eastern Conference, while Atlanta are eighth and in with a shot of making the playoffs come the end of the regular-season.
This will be the third time these two teams have played each other this season, with Cleveland winning the first two games, including squeaking past Atlanta 112-111 in February.
The Cleveland Cavaliers have enjoyed huge success over the past few years, winning 6 divisional titles, 5 conference titles and the NBA Championship itself in 2016. By comparison, the Atlanta Hawks won their Southeast Division just the once, in 2015.
Based off current form however, I’m backing the Hawks to defeat the Cavaliers when they meet on Sunday. Atlanta will edge out Cleveland in a close game, winning by ten points or less.
- Cleveland 4th in Central Division
- Cleveland NBA Champs 2016
- Atlanta 3rd in Southeast Division
- Atlanta Southeast Div champs 2015
Head to Head
The Cleveland Cavaliers and the Atlanta Hawks have played each other a total of 231 times, with Atlanta currently leading their head-to-head by 123 wins to 108. Over the past three seasons, these two teams have played each other seven times, with the Cavaliers leading 5-2.
The Cavaliers and the Hawks have played each other twice already this season, with Cleveland winning both games, most recently in February where they won by the narrowest of margins 112-111.
Cleveland Cavaliers Form
The Cleveland Cavaliers are currently fourth in the Eastern Conference Central Division. The Cavaliers have won 14 games and lost 22 for a 0.389 win percentage. In their last 10 games they are 4-6, and before the break for the NBA All-Star game, Cleveland were beaten 114-111 by the Indiana Pacers.
Between the 4th and 22nd of February, the Cavaliers suffered 10 consecutive defeats, one of the worst runs in the NBA this season. However, they then proceeded to win four games on the bounce before the loss to Indiana.
Any success that the Cavaliers have enjoyed this season has been largely down to industry of three players in particular; top points scorer Colin Sexton, Javale McGee who leads the stats for rebounds and blocks, and Darius Garland, Cleveland’s specialist when it comes to assists and steals.
Atlanta Hawks Form
The Atlanta Hawks are third in Eastern Conference Southeast Division, with 17 wins and 20 defeats for a 0.459 win percentage. The Hawks are 6-4 in their last 10 games, and have won their last three.
Atlanta began their campaign with four wins in their opening five games, which so far has been their best sequence of the season.
That sequence will be equaled if the Hawks beat Cleveland on Sunday. Currently, Atlanta have won four of their last six games, including the last three. On Friday (March 12) the Hawks kept their winning streak alive by the narrowest of margins, defeating the Toronto Raptors 121-120.
