Mexico have made it to the semi-finals of the World Baseball Classic despite suffering a loss along the way.

They opened the tournament with a shock 5-4 loss to Columbia, but bounced back in impressive fashion.

The Mexicans beat the United States 11-5, and then followed that up with a 2-1 win against Great Britain and a 10-3 victory over Canada to finish top of Pool C.

That set up a quarter-final clash with Puerto Rico, and Mexico won a thrilling game 5-3 to advance.

Japan Form

Japan have been on a tear at this tournament, winning all five of their games in comfortable fashion.

They are the only team to have appeared in the semi-final of every World Baseball Classic so far, and that streak has never looked in jeopardy.

Japan opened their Pool B campaign with an 8-1 rout of China, and backed that up with a 13-4 win against South Korea, a 10-2 success against the Czech Republic and a 7-1 demolition of Australia.

They then booked their place in the semi-finals with a 9-3 win over Italy in the quarter-finals.
