Western Bulldogs vs Sydney Swans Tips

Western Bulldogs and Sydney Swans contest what arguably looks the best fixture of Round 17.

The Bulldogs were devastating against the Eagles, recording a 55-point win in Perth before a flatter performance last Sunday, not getting out of second gear in a 29 point victory over North Melbourne.

Sydney's finals chances looked vulnerable with back-to-back losses leading into their Round 16 clash against the Eagles in Geelong, but they blew West Coast off the park with a 92 point drubbing.

  • The Western Bulldogs have won 8 of their last 9 matches at Marvel Stadium
  • The Western Bulldogs have the highest percentage in the AFL and lead the competition this season for points per game, goal assists per game and clearances per game
  • Sydney lead the AFL this season for tackles per game, while they rank top three for inside 50s per game and goal assists per game
  • Jack Macrae has recorded 30+ disposals in each of the Bulldogs last 27 games (excluding season 2020 with shortened quarters)

Head to Head

From their last 10 clashes, the Bulldogs lead the head to head battle 6-4 over Sydney.

The Western Bulldogs defeated North Melbourne by 28 points points in Round 4, 2020, which was the last game between these two sides.

Western Bulldogs Form

Following an after the siren loss to the Cats in Geelong, the Bulldogs made a statement in the west with a 55 point victory over West Coast, a margin that flattered the Eagles.

With a few Perth trips in a short space, quarantining numerous times and coming off a couple of big games, it wasn't a surprise to see them tire last Sunday, but class still got them home.

Melbourne went to Adelaide on Thursday night and grabbed back top of the ladder honours in the process.

With victory over the Swans in Round 17, the Western Bulldogs can reclaim that mantle on Sunday, but it won't be easy.

Western Bulldogs Team News

Last year's number 1 draft pick Jamarra Ugle-Hagan makes his long awaited debut on Sunday, joining speedy utility Ed Richards in Sunday's 22.

In a blow for the Bulldogs, the AFL's most exciting young forward Aaron Naughton will miss this week due to concussion protocols while Toby McLean and Pat Lipinski have been omitted from last Sunday's squad.

Sydney Swans Form

Sydney have been one of the surprise packets of 2021, with this young and developing, but exciting team holding down sixth position on the ladder currently with a 9-6 record so far.

Following an upset loss to Hawthorn and a narrow defeat at the hands of Port Adelaide, the Swans sparked their season back into action in Round 16 with a huge win over the Eagles.

With key injuries to the Bulldogs, this is as good a chance as they'll get to beat a premiership fancy in the run to the finals, albeit they'll have to topple them at Marvel Stadium, a ground the Bulldogs play as well as any.

Sydney Swans Team News

The Sydney Swans have made no changes to their 22 that defeated West Coast in Round 16.

Verdict

The $1.32 in the head to head markets for the Bulldogs is a little thin, but you can make that $2 in a same game multi by throwing in Jack Macrae to get 30+ disposals (has achieved this in his last 27 full length games) and for Josh Bruce to kick a goal (has kicked a major in 16 of his last 17 matches).
