West Coast vs North Melbourne, Round 13 2024 - Expert Prediction

The Eagles will be without young-gun Harley Reid for their bottom of the table clash with the Kangaroos, however, this is not expected to affect the result with West Coast predicted to beat North Melbourne, handing them another hefty loss that covers the line.

Reid has been the shining light for the Eagles, making a direct impact and is an obvious blow, however, watching North Melbourne has been less enjoyable then pulling your own teeth out. I don’t see the Kangas getting close to any team this season and the 20.5 point line is considerably kind if you take into account that their slimmest defeat was by 26 points this season.

Expect the Eagles to come out with something to prove after an under-par performance last week against St Kilda in front of their home fans and do the business against the projected Spooners.

  • North Melbourne have lost by 26 or more points in every game this season.
  • North Melbourne ranks last in Inside 50’s, Marks Inside 50 and Shot Efficiency.
  • West Coast have won by an average of 37 points in their 3 wins at Optus Stadium this season.
  • Jack Darling has kicked 2+ goals in 5 of his past 7 games.

Head to Head

West Coast got a 72-67 win against North Melbourne in round 20 last season which was their first win against the Kangas since the 2020 season, losing three straight matches prior to their victory in 2023.

After four strong performances at Optus Stadium which saw the Eagles get wins against Richmond, Fremantle and Melbourne and a narrow 6-point loss to Essendon, a lot was expected of them against the Saints in round 12. However, West Coast were unable to match the calibre of those performances and found themselves giving up a double-digit lead twice in the match and losing by 14 points after the Saints kicked 5 of the last 6 goals.

The Eagles could not build the same forward pressure they did when they got the upset of the season against Melbourne last time they played at Optus Stadium and the Saints were able to to build pressure themselves with 8 more Inside 50s.

The Eagles will need to ensure that they find their structure again after under-performing to their new expectations over the past two weeks.

West Coast Team News

The Eagles will be without 2023 No.1 pick Harley Reid for the the clash against the Kangaroos after the star midfielder was suspended for rough conduct on St Kilda’s Darcy Wilson.

Jack Petruccelle (syndesmosis) and Alex Witherden (calf) will be tested later in the week but are both expected to be cleared.

North Melbourne are still chasing their first win of the season and have continued to suffer heavy defeats with an average losing margin of 52.09 points this season in their 11 defeats.

The Kangas have no answers at the moment and are failing to build any sort of forward pressure this season. They are ranked last in all Inside 50 categories and getting beaten heavily in at the stoppages. North Melbourne are also the worst team in the AFL in Contested Possession and Marks.

North Melbourne Team News

Jy Simpkin (quad) and veteran Hugh Greenwood (Achilles) are up for selection this week after being cleared early in the week by their doctors.
