West Coast Eagles vs GWS Giants Tips

Greater Western Sydney should stay on top of the AFL ladder for at least one more week after they take care of the West Coast and break their hoodoo at Perth Stadium against the Eagles.

The Giants do not like to travel to Perth and have only won one of nine games at Optus Stadium since it was built in 2018, which was against Freo in 2020. I will never lay another cent on the AFL if GWS lose this one after starting so sharpley in 2024 and the Eagles in the midst of a rebuild.

West Coast are not at the same level at the moment and GWS look like they will stay in the top 4 the whole season if their wins against Collingwood and North Melbourne are to go by.

The Giants will be clinical and will want to hit the target more than they did against North Melbourne where they were disappointing, kicking 17 goals from 36 scoring shots. If the accuracy improves, which I believe it will, then GWS will cover the huge 46.5-point line.

Toby Greene will have a day out and run rings around the West coast backline and will kick at least 3 goals in the match.

  • GWS’s last win against West coast was by 52 points.
  • West Coast lost 12 games by 47+ points last season.
  • Toby Greene kicked 3+ goals in 13 matches in 2023.

Head to Head

The GWS Giants were one of just three teams that West Coast beat last season, getting up 100-81 in round 2 of the season.

Greater Western Sydney won the previous two matches in 2022 and 2021, however the Eagles hold a 3-2 lead in the head-to-head battle over the last five seasons.

West Coast Eagles Form

The hyped debut of Harley Reid last week went well with the 18-year-old finishing the game with 16 disposals, five clearances and four inside 50s, which was a definite pass for the number 1 pick in last year’s draft.

It was a tough day at the office for West Coast as a team though, getting dominated all over the park and going down by 50 points in their season opener, which could have been more if Port could hit the target more efficiently.

West Coast Eagles Team News

No new injury news for West coast which is a positive. Clay Hall comes off the injury list and Jai Culley is closing in on a return over the next couple weeks overcoming his knee injury.

GWS Giants Form

The Giants are sitting pretty at the top of the AFL ladder after two confident wins against Collingwood and North Melbourne.

The Giants opening round win against the reigning premiers was the more complete performance winning more of the ball in the middle and taking care of their clearances, which wasn’t really the case against North Melbourne, but it wasn’t really needed either.

GWS could’ve put another 50 on the Kangaroos if they could only hit the target as well.

GWS Giants Team News

The Giants got through their game last week without picking up any new injuries.

Darcy Jones and Cooper Hamilton had a successful run in the VFL last week and will be up for selection if no more precaution is needed.
