Sydney vs Gold Coast, Round 6 2024 - Expert Prediction
The Gold Coast Suns will make their way to Sydney to play at the SCG against the Swans, who appeared to have their wings clip before their round 5 bye week. The young Suns are feeling full of confidence after a strong victory against the Hawks and will take that into their match on Sunday and cover the 19.5-point line, in what will prove to be another tough match for the Swannies.

Sydney started with their guns blaizing but failed to live up the same expectations in the past three matches, letting their opponents overpower them for long periods of the match. The midfield of Errol Gulden and Isaac Heeney was lethal to start the year, but has not had the same compression around the stoppages which has hurt the Swans.
The Suns have achieved well to start the season and their energy has certainly lifted the hopes and expectation at the club. Coach Damien Hardwick has had a direct impact on the composure and structure of the ball movement and if his troops play to the standard that they have shown for a full four quarters, they will be a real threat to the Swans this week.
I give the Suns a real chance, considering how easy it was for the Tigers and Eagles to move the ball on Sydney before their bye week and expect the Gold Coast to cover the 19.5 points as underdogs easily.
The Suns should get their chances to shoot at goal and if Ben King can find some space I expect another couple of goals out of the Gold Coast forward, which will push the Suns team total over 77.5 points for the match.
- The Gold Coast have won 2 of their past 3 games against Sydney at the SCG.
- The Gold Coast average 84.8 points per game this season.
- Sydney has allow their opponents to score 78 points or more in their past 3 matches.
- Ben King has kicked 2+ goals in 4 of 5 games this season.
Head to Head
The Swans got two wins against the Gold Coast in 2023, beating the Suns 110-61 in round 1 of the season and backing it up with a tougher victory at the SCG in round 22, kicking away from the Gold Coast in the third quarter to win by 24 points.

Sydney enjoyed the week off with a round 5 bye, which was unexpectedly needed after two underpar performances, one which resulted in 5-point loss to Richmond in round 3 and the other a comeback victory over West Coast, who were leading into the main break.
The Swans started the season in emphatic fashion in the first two weeks, playing strong pressure footy that didn’t give their opponents time to breathe. That wasn’t the case in their match against Essendon and the red flags should have been waving after allowing the Bombers to put 101 points on them. The Sydney defence has struggled from there on out and needed the week off to reset.

The Gold Coast put in their cleanest performance of the season to record their third win in 5 matches and stay unbeaten at People First Stadium, with a very comfortable 109-56 win over Hawthorn on Saturday night.
The Gold Coast pressure forced Hawthorn into 71 errors in the match and the superb play of Mac Andrew at the back disrupted the forward ball movement of the Hawks all evening.
The Gold Coast could not really ask for a better start to Damien Hardwick’s tenure and they certainly look to be a team that can be pushing for their first finals berth in the 13 year history of the club.
