Sydney Swans vs Geelong Cats Tips

Sydney may have started the 2021 season on fire, but back-to-back losses have thrown the Swans into a downhill spiral. They now need to regain composure against a resurgent Geelong Cats side.

The Cats are purring and have shown how to take advantage of this Swans team in recent years. They are tipped to do so again at the SCG.

  • Sydney Swans have lost their last 2 matches.
  • Geelong Cats have won the last 4 matches against the Sydney Swans, all by 1-39 point margins.
  • Geelong Cats have won 4 of the last 6 matches against the Sydney Swans at the SCG.
  • Geelong Cats have won 4 of their last 5 matches, 3 of them by 1-39 points.

Head to Head

Geelong Cats have won the last four matches against the Sydney Swans, including winning last year's clash 69-63 at Metricon Stadium.

Sydney have a better than average record against Geelong at the SCG, but it is the Cats who hold the recent advantage winning four of the last six matches at the venue.

Sydney Swans Form

The Swans lost poorly away from home against the Gold Coast Suns last weekend as they went down 100-60.

They did field a younger side against Gold Coast due to recent injuries, yet the loss still came as a shock.

Captain Josh Kennedy was a standout for the Swans racking up a season high 42 disposals.

Sydney had also lost the derby at home to the GWS Giants in Round 5, losing 71-69 to their cross-town rivals after two late goals.

Despite the recent struggles, the Swans still are in the top three for goals scored per match with an even 14.

Sydney Swans Team News

George Hewett will miss out on Saturday due to concussion protocols.

Forward Sam Reid is another out for the Swans as he recovers from a calf injury.

Key defender Tom McCartin returns this week to do battle with the Geelong Cats tall forwards Tom Hawkins and Jeremy Cameron.

Colin O'Riordan is also recalled in defence, while Tom Hickey and young gun Dylan Stephens are other ins for the Swans.

Geelong Cats Form

The Cats stunned the West Coast Eagles and the AFL world last week as they dominated at GMHBA Stadium, winning by a whopping 97 points.

The 136-39 victory over the Eagles was the second highest winning margin for the year.

Despite star mid Patrick Dangerfield being out for the next couple months, the Cats walked over the Eagles from the second quarter to the final siren.
It was all led by Mitch Duncan who booted four goals including a 60-metre torpedo to end the second quarter, that lit up the socials.

A fourth win in the last five games, it boosted the Cats to a top four place.

A hamstring injury will see Mark O’Connor miss this week’s contest. Jake Kolodjashnij is also out with a knee problem.

Quinton Narkle comes into the Geelong midfield.
