St Kilda vs Fremantle Preview, Predictions & Betting

Both teams here are sitting outside the top eight and look out of finals contention, but the slight glimmer of hope remains for Fremantle if they can win their remaining three games.

St Kilda was beaten last week by Adelaide, while Fremantle consummately put away Geelong, beating the Cats by 34-points.

The Saints play Marvel Stadium well, which is why I'm taking St Kilda. Fremantle has a horrible record in Melbourne and despite the desperate nature of the Dockers' season I think the Saints will be too slick.

Back the Saints to win by 1-39 points at the value of $2.20 with online bookmaker BetEasy.

St Kilda Team News

The Saints were soundly beaten by Adelaide in Crows by 22-points, with the home side not looking like the finals-bound team they potentially are. Tim Membrey managed to kick three goals while Josh Bruce had an an ordinary day, kicking one major and three behinds.

Before this, they had a great win against Melbourne and beat the Bulldogs well by almost five goals. Both of these games were played at Marvel Stadium where they clash here.

The big inclusions for the Saints are Dan Hannebery, Jack Newnes and Jack Steven. This is practically an entire midfield and they are all high quality players.

Jade Gresham’s season looks all but over after fracturing his face last week. Doulton Langlands and Dan McKenzie are the other two players to miss out on being selected in the extended squad.

The Saints will be hard to beat back at Marvel and the margin of 1-39 points at $2.20 with bookmaker BetEasy looks enticing.

Fremantle Team News

Fremantle were elite last week against the top of the ladder Geelong.

Michael Walters continued his stellar form racking up 29-disposals and a goal, as was Brownlow medal winner Nat Fyfe with 27 touch and two goals.

Fremantle’s previous game at Marvel was a dismal loss to the Bulldogs by 47-points. Nat Fyfe and Andrew Brayshaw were the only two players to influence the game from Freo with Bulldogs players Jack Macrae, Marcus Bontempelli and Lachie Hunter breaking them with run through the middle of the ground.

Hayden Ballantyne and Cam McCarthy both look to make their way into the extended squad which should boost their midfield and forward line.

Freo are still yet to win a game at Marvel this year and we are expecting this trend to continue being the $2.45 outsiders with bookmaker BetEasy.

St Kilda vs Fremantle Head To Head

Fremantle beat St Kilda earlier in the season at Optus Stadium by five points, but this is a different scenario with the Saints playing at home.

Freo hold a 3-2 win record over St Kilda, but the teams last clash at Marvel was a 34 point win in favour of the Saints.

St Kilda vs Fremantle Match Up

The best match up here looks between Cam McCarthy and Jake Carlisle.

Carlisle is one of the Saints top quality players who could fit into any backline in the AFL.

McCarthy is a top forward at his best and can certainly be a great match up for Carlisle. He does give Carlisle a slight height advantage but he does average almost two goals per game.

This looks to be a great clash between the two and could shake the match depending on who gets the upper-hand.

St Kilda vs Fremantle Key Statistics

  • Fremantle are yet to win this year at Marvel
  • St Kilda have won their last two games at Marvel
  • Each of their last five clashes have been in the 1-39 margin
  • St Kilda’s Ben Long has kicked the first goal against two opponents this season

Verdict

We will be siding with a 1-39 point win from the Saints at Marvel Stadium.

Live-wire Ben Long is our best bet to boot the opening goal, with the elusive and deceptively tall half forward flank possessing the ability to fly under the radar with a lot of attention on Membery and Bruce.
