Richmond Tigers vs Geelong Cats Tips

Richmond produced their best performance of the season to defeat the previously unbeaten Western Bulldogs last week. With an excellent record against Geelong, they can get the better of the Cats again and repeat their 2020 AFL Grand Final success.

Richmond Tigers have had the measure of Geelong Cats in recent head to heads, winning six of the last seven clashes between the sides.

The Tigers have won the last three meetings, including two finals. Richmond won 85-66 in the 2019 Preliminary Final, 57-31 in the regular season last year and 81-50 in the 2020 AFL Grand Final.

The Tigers produced stunning victory over the flying Western Bulldogs last Friday as they recorded a 22-point win at the MCG.

Reigning premiers Richmond trailed by 25 points but got the better of the previously undefeated Bulldogs 77-55 to move to 4-3 for the season.

It was a much improved performance on Round 6, when they were no match for the undefeated Melbourne Demons in an 82-48 loss.

Richmond will be without captain Trent Cotchin, who picked up a hamstring injury against the Bulldogs, and defender Dylan Grimes through concussion.

But the Tigers have Dustin Martin available again after his own concussion absence last week.

Richmond will also have Nick Vlastuin back on deck after an injury picked up in the opening game of the season.

After an impressive debut, Riley Collier-Dawkins retains his place in the Tigers side. 

Kane Lambert and Dion Prestia remain out.

Geelong Cats Form

Geelong Cats gave up a 29-point lead as they lost 90-88 to the Sydney Swans at the SCG last weekend.

But it was not without controversy in the closing minutes with Jeremy Cameron claiming a mark in front of goal that would have led to victory, only for it not to be paid.

The defeat continued a mixed start to the season for the Cats, who had thumped the West Coast Eagles by 97 points a week earlier.

Chris Scott's side have a 4-3 record for the season and sit a place above Richmond in fifth spot.

Shaun Higgins makes his first appearance after a month out with a fractured thumb.

Gryan Miers is ruled out for an extended period after suffering a hairline fracture of his fibula.

Sam Simpson comes into the side for his first appearance of the season, and Zach Guthrie is also recalled. Jordan Clark and Quinton Narkle are omitted.

Mark O’Connor, Jake Kolodjashni and Patrick Dangerfield are all on the treatment table.
