Port Adelaide and Richmond Tigers face off in the first AFL Preliminary Final for a spot in the big dance next week. This match is in favour of Port Adelaide, being played in Adelaide, but can they make it count?

Port defeated Richmond during the season and they are sure to have reflected back on that victory during the week. But the Tigers are a different side during Finals and play at an elite level. Who will win through to the AFL Grand Final?

Port Adelaide Form & Team News

Port Adelaide finished as 2020 minor premiers and backed up that feat with a mega win over Geelong Cats in the qualifying final a fortnight ago. They showed that especially at home, they are the best side in the competition.

Power played a team game a fortnight ago, showing how far that these boys are dedicated to go into this finals series, and showing a real strong spirit throughout the club.

If someone is going to knock the Tigers off in a preliminary final this season, Port are the team to match them.

Port Adelaide name an unchanged side with Xavier Duursma and Todd Marshall shaking off knocks suffered against the Cats.

The Port Adelaide team for Saturday is below:

B: R.Burton, T.McKenzie, D.Houston
HB: H.Harlett, T.Jonas, D.Byrne-Jones
C: X.Duursma, O.Wines, K.Amon
HF: Z.Butters, T.Marshall, B.Ebert
F: C.Rozee, C.Dixon, R.Gray
FOLL: S.Lycett, T.Rockliff, T.Boak
I/C: S.Powell-Pepper, S.Motlop, T.Clurey, P.Ladhams
EMG: R.Bonner, B.Woodcock, J.Westhoff, J.Lienert

Richmond Form & Team News

Richmond Tigers are the modern era finals side, showing aggression but playing professional footy. That has taken them all the way to the flag in two of the last three seasons.

The Tigers slipped up against the Brisbane Lions in the qualifying final, giving away costly 50m penalties with most resulting in goals.

Richmond were a lot better against St Kilda last week, although there were a couple of moments with Trent Cotchin and Tom Lynch that would have has fans nervous about possible suspensions.

The Tigers will want to bring their aggression to the prelim final this week with some top quality players from Port Adelaide ready to go head to head with the big boys.

Richmond have opted against bringing Mabior Chol back and have named an unchanged side.

The Richmond team for Saturday is below:

B: D.Astbury, D.Grimes, N.Balta
HB: L.Baker, N.Vlastuin, B.Houli
C: K.McIntosh, D.Prestia, M.Pickett
HF: K.Lambert, J.Castagna, D.Martin
F: T.Lynch, J.Riewoldt, D.Rioli
FOLL: T.Nankervis, S.Edwards, T.Cotchin
I/C: J.Graham, J.Short, S.Bolton, N.Broad
EMG: O.Markov, J.Caddy, M.Chol, J.Aarts

Port Adelaide vs Richmond Head To Head

Richmond hold the head to head record 3-2 from the last five contests, but the latest match earlier this season which went the way of the Power by 21 points.

Finals matches are always a different scenario, but Port Adelaide significantly hold the home game advantage. I would be backing them to get the job done, although Richmond are the better Grand Final play with the match being played in QLD.

Port Adelaide vs Richmond Betting Odds

Port Adelaide are the $1.85 favourites while Richmond are not far behind on the $1.95 line.

The line for Port Adelaide has been set at -1.5.

Port Adelaide vs Richmond Match Up

The key match up for this match looks set to be on the Richmond half-forward line between Tom Lynch and Darcy Byrne-Jones.

Although Byrne-Jones lacks the physical strength of Lynch, he is an elite defender and has shown that all season long, being named in the All Australian squad.

He will be playing off Lynch, trying to intercept rather than play body on body.

Lynch tore St Kilda apart last week and with that form, he could prove the difference in this match.
