North Melbourne vs Gold Coast Suns Tips

A surprisingly high stakes match sees the Roos host the Suns in Tasmania. The Suns are tipped to save their season with a convincing win over the last placed Kangaroos.

  • North Melbourne have lost 11 of their 13 matches this season.
  • Gold Coast Suns have won 4 of the last 6 matches against North Melbourne.
  • Gold Coast Suns won the first meeting against North Melbourne this year 98-39 at Metricon Stadium.
  • Gold Coast Suns have lost 5 of their last 6 matches.
  • Gold Coast Suns have never played in Tasmania.

Head-to-Head

The head to head stands at seven wins each from 14 clashes. The Suns have won four of the last six.

Gold Coast only limited North Melbourne to 39 points in the last contest earlier this season, which was the Kangaroos' lowest total score of the year.

The year before the Suns defence was even more effective, limiting North Melbourne to only 28 points.

North Melbourne Form

The season of woe continued last week as North Melbourne lost 68-45 to the Brisbane Lions.

It was a vastly different performance from a Kangaroos team had been able to effectively score the week before against the GWS Giants in a 94-94 draw.

The struggles have been broadcasted this week as the media is beginning to mark this Kangaroos side "the worst team in the AFL era".

To eliminate this title, the Kangaroos will need to capitalise on a young Suns team that have plummeted down the ladder in recent weeks.

The last team to finish the season with only one victory were the Greater Western Sydney Giants in 2013, it was the Giants second season.

North Melbourne Team News

Forward Taylor Garner was hopeful of a return against the Suns, but has not been named by the Roos.

In only change from last week sees young prospect Will Phillips come into the side. Last year's top draft pick racked up 31 disposals in the VFL last week.

Bailey Scott is left out and Tom Powell is managed.

Gold Coast Suns Form

No team has moved around the AFL ladder more than the Suns this season.

After being in the hunt for a top 8 spot and a first finals appearance, they are now scrambling to stop this free fall after five defeats in the last six games.

The most recent was an 81-31 loss against Port Adelaide last weekend.

A win would not only put the season back on track but potentially again show promise that there is a rising sun coming.

Gold Coast Suns Team News

Co-captain David Swallow and vice-captain Sam Collins are confirmed to miss this week’s contest.

Midfielder Lachie Weller is also ruled out for a couple of weeks with a hamstring injury.

Chris Burgess is left out this week with Jeremy Sharp, Josh Corbett and Ben Ainsworth coming into the side.
