North Melbourne vs Essendon Bombers Tips

The Kangaroos capped off a consistent run of form with arguably the upset of the season on Monday when defeating the West Coast Eagles in Perth.

Essendon broke a two game losing stretch in Round 17 with a 63-point victory over an ordinary Adelaide Crows. The Bombers have a strong head to head record and can take the points.

  • North Melbourne have lost their last 6 matches at Metricon Stadium
  • Cameron Zurhaar has kicked 2+ goals in each of North Melbourne's last 6 games
  • Essendon rank third in the AFL for points per game this season and are top five for tackles per game and handballs per game
  • Essendon have defeated North Melbourne in each of their last 6 clashes.

Head to Head

From their last 10 matches, Essendon lead the head to head battle 6-4 over North Melbourne.

Essendon defeated North Melbourne by 72 points in Round 10 this season, which was the last game between these two sides.

North Melbourne Form

After being one of the more uncompetitve sides in recent memory, North Melbourne have improved as this season has progressed, which is credit to new coach David Noble.

The Kangaroos recorded their most important victory in years last Sunday when toppling the Eagles in Perth.

That followed a competitve performance against a genuine premiership fancy in the Western Bulldogs.

North Melbourne Team News

In bad news North Melbourne, Ben Cunnington will miss this Round 18 encounter.

Without clearly their best midfielder, the engine room now relies on a lot of inexperienced players this Sunday.

Charlie Lazzaro comes in as the only change.

Essendon Bombers Form

While they're still developing, Essendon are arguably the most dangerous side outside the top six on the current ladder.

A young team, they play an exciting brand of footy when they're up and going. That was evident last week in a six-goal win over Adelaide Crows.

They arguably should have beaten top of the table Melbourne Demons prior to a Geelong visit, which was a closer encounter than the 41 points suggests. But they just lacked the experience to match the seasoned Cats in key moments.

Bouncing back to form with an effortless win over the Crows last week, they have an extra two days of rest over the young Kangaroos who went to Perth. That could be a telling factor as this game wears on.

Essendon Bombers Team News

Dyson Heppell and Sam Durham come back into the Essendon side.

Kyle Langford is out injured, while Martin Gleeson is left out this week.

Verdict

Ben Cunnington is a huge out for North Melbourne and with Essendon looking to keep their finals hopes alive, they can cover the -22.5 line having had the extra break ahead of this Sunday.

These two teams combined for a 210 point game only in Round 10, so with the Pick Your Own Total option, the 180.5 can be specked as a Value Bet at $4.50.
