An intriguing clash takes place on Saturday afternoon with an in-form Carlton team taking on an out of sorts North Melbourne side.

It is a game which won’t get too much attention from the media but is a very important one for both clubs. Carlton can keep in touch with the top eight if they can get the four points while North's season is currently hanging by a thread.

North Melbourne Form & Team News

North Melbourne is in terrible form, losing their last four games. The scoreboard flattered them two weeks ago against the Bombers, and they only managed to score 23 points last week against Richmond, who were severely undermanned.

An injury-ravaged line up just took another hit with captain Jack Ziebell and new recruit Aiden Boner set to miss Saturday's match.

North Melbourne's team for Saturday can be found below:

B: Pittard, Tarrant, McDonald
HB: Atley, McKay, Hayden
C: Polec, Simpkin, Dumont

Carlton Form & Team News

Carlton is enjoying its best start to a season in recent memory and look set to be a finals contender for the first time in five years.

While they have only won one out of their last three, they only narrowly lost to Port Adelaide last week and matched it for large periods against St Kilda three weeks prior. The Blues' best is good enough, but can they find it routinely?

One man who has been consistent throughout the start of the Carlton season is Jack Martin, who's class around goal has been a shining light.

Carlton has made no changes to last week's side.

Carlton's team for Saturday can be found below:

B: Plowman, Jones, Simpson

HB: Docherty, Weitering, Williamson

C: Murphy, Cripps, Newnes

HF: Martin, Casboult, McGovern

F: Betts, McKay, Gibbons

FOLL: Pittonet, Setterfield, Walsh

I/C: Petrevski-Seton, E.Curnow, Kennedy, Cuningham

North Melbourne vs Carlton Match Up

The battle of the ruckmen looks like it will have a big say in this match with experienced star Todd Goldstein going up against the youngster in Marc Pittonet.

Goldstein is having a terrific year and would be close to career best form, which is a big statement given his body of work. Pittonet has exceeded all expectations since arriving at Carlton. While he's not in the upper echelon of rucks in the competition, he's a genuine battler who will always deliver a contest.

The winner of this battle may decide the contest.

Carlton has been one of the more unlucky teams this season and could easily be sitting inside the eight. Conversely, North Melbourne have been the worst team in the league over the last month, which gives us plenty of confidence in the Blues.

We're also having a small investment on Jack Martin to kick the first of the match with no obvious medium forward match up for the former Sun.
