North Melbourne vs Brisbane Lions Tips

North Melbourne stay in Hobart and in Round 14 they host the Brisbane Lions in Saturday's twilight fixture.

The Kangaroos drew with the Giants last Sunday, a game that they had in their keeping before a late GWS surge where in the end, they were a little lucky to get away with the tie.

Brisbane were arguably the form of the competition prior to their 22 point defeat at the hands of the ladder leaders Melbourne Demons, but looking to stay in the top four and within reach of the top two, they'll be aiming for a big win in Hobart, fresh off a break.

  • North Melbourne have lost 10 of their 12 matches this season
  • North Melbourne have lost their last 3 matches against Brisbane Lions
  • Brisbane Lions have won 7 of their last 8 matches
  • Brisbane's last 4 matches have all gone over the total match points line
  • Brisbane rank top 3 in the AFL for kicks per game, points per game & clearances per game this season
  • North Melbourne rank last for points per game and are in the bottom 3 for tackles per game and inside 50's per game this season

Head to Head

From their last 10 clashes, it's all tied up at five a piece although Brisbane have won their last three matches against North Melbourne.

That includes a one point victory at Blundstone Arena in Round 12, 2020 which was the last time these two sides met.

North Melbourne Form

While the Kangaroos will still be at least two to three years away from threatening a finals berth, they are at least becoming competitve as this season wears on and are blooding some promising young players in the process.

Last Sunday against the GWS Giants, there were plenty of positives to take away for North Melbourne after an unlucky draw.

The Roos looked quite potent down forward following some quick play and nice ball movement between the arcs, but they made plenty of mistakes.

They did tire late last week after being up for so much of that contest, so a quick rebound is needed, especially early against Brisbane, an opponent that has no trouble hitting the scoreboard.

One change sees Luke McDonald come in for the injured Taylor Garner.

Brisbane Lions Form

The Lions were one of the in-form teams in the AFL heading into their Round 12 clash against ladder leaders Melbourne Demons.

They led that match by 20 points at half time before the Demons ran away with it in the last quarter.

As a premiership fancy for 2021 and currently sitting fourth on the ladder, Brisbane can't afford to be dropping games such as this one against the Kangaroos and with percentage potentially playing a key part later in the year.

A high scoring team that are dangerous at the clearances and with a strong defence led by Harris Andrews, Grant Birchall and Daniel Rich, it's hard to see how North pick the Lions apart on Saturday.

Dayne Zorko is suspended and Ryan Lester is injured for the Lions.

James Madden comes into the Brisbane side.
